I won't even change my own oil, LOL.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

All brands have had issues. You've just had bad luck with Mazda. Even brands known primarily for reliability, like Toyota, have had to replace transmissions in new vehicles. It flies under the radar but just check out their forums too. Honda is far from what they used to be. Depends on where...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

I got an extended warranty on my CX-9 and I normally never buy them for anything. But with it being a new design at the time and loaded with electronics and a new engine design, I wanted piece of mind. So if the time comes that I get denied coverage over this issue, there's going to be hell to...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

Can't imagine they'd ever do that. Would be twice the labor. They would likely just set him up with a loaner out of the dealer closest to the new location. Even if they had to ship his vehicle back to him when it's done. All easier than taking an engine out of a new vehicle.

Yup, 2019 model year is when engine was modified, at which point the issue should be fixed.

Looking good. 👍 Tinting windshield is illegal in most states, which do you live in?

2nd Gen CX-9 High mileage club, how's it holding up?

Seems like these engine replacements aren't doing so great. The job is just so complex to expect a not so highly paid mechanic to take everything apart and put it back to factory spec. Haven't heard, but do you get a fresh warranty on the whole drivetrain after new engine swap?

Congrats. It'll likely be a trouble free vehicle for you. Most reliable 3-row on the market.

    2016~2023 Consumer Reports - 2020 CX-9

Checked out the latest issue of Consumer Reports to see if the 2.5T coolant leak issue is wide enough to have registered in their findings. Apparently not. Unfortunately they don't show '16 & '17's but a perfect engine reliability score for 2018's with original version of engine. On another...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

Good to hear. That's really the only option available. Rentals can average $100/day and insurance isn't going to pay that in this situation.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

What arrangements are you guys getting in the meantime? Dealer loaner? I'd likely trade for a new CX-9 if I wasn't provided a loaner at no cost for months. While also demanding full market value for trade since engine failure is Mazda's fault.

Why does Mazda insist on using black plastic?

At least 80% of SUV's/crossovers have the grey (not black) cladding. No sense in calling out Mazda for using it. Good thing is that The plastic used on the last 10 years seems to hold its color much better than the stuff used in the 90's and 2000's.

Also, is there a pattern of this issue occuring in the South vs North, where persistent heat is more of a problem? Would be interesting to know.

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

The other variant could relate to driving style. Clearly, this relates to engine stress. Does a CX-9 that's been driven more aggressively and under boost a lot more often a possible causation? Not talking about thrashing the car near redline all the time but just that the CX-9 does need it's...

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

No, Mazda definitely modified the standard 2.5 to handle the extra load and heat of the turbo right from the start in 2016. I remember Dave Coleman specifically saying this before the CX-9 launch. (Coleman is a lead engineer at Mazda).

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

The million dollar question is the starting build date of a revised 2.5T, if indeed it happened. You have to wonder if it was when the torque changed from 310 to 320 lb ft (I believe it was the 2020 model year).

    Poll 2.5T Coolant Leak/Engine Replacement

If Mazda didn't revise a known weak point a good couple of years ago, they are in trouble. 2.5T has been used across the lineup now for a while. Could be CX-5's and Mazda 6's next. Would really hamper their future if it becomes more widespread. I still suspect this is a limited problem as most...
