    Adding leather to the CX-5

Not a CX-5 response, but I replaced the leather covers on my 2001 Miata in 2010. The materials came from leatherseats.com (a US company). They also sell seat staples and a staple tool which I also got so as to do the job myself. They featured a variety of colours/options, the material was higher...

POLL: Are you happy with the factory installed TomTom Navigation Unit?

Yes I am, but with the reservation that it is more a question of it being better than nothing. Having updated everything this past weekend, I today made my first tries to use voice to "Drive To Address". The first instance required two attempts; yielding a list of wrong destinations on the...

Just got a new Cx5 GT with tec pack!

Funny you would write this. I bought a used 2010 MX-5 in May of 2011 from North Carolina, and Mazda Canada is honouring the warranty for THAT car. I have had warranty work done without problem. I actually went to my local dealer before closing the US sale and asked them if they would; and they...

I know, it's the honeymoon period, but...I LOVE IT!

Saturday I brought home a 10' cedar 4x4 post - with the hatch closed. Given the geometry, I could not have carried a second one in the same load while keeping the hatch closed. Brian

    Parking brake in cold temps

It may be months before I am in a position to do so, but your argument has caught my interest. I WILL give it a try. My CX-5 is the auto. My MX-5 is in storage until spring. Brian

    Parking brake in cold temps

No, I really mean top gear - in this case it would be 6th. This is the gear which from standing is the most difficult for the car to roll forward on its own. Try pulling away with a manual from stop in 6th gear. You stall out and that's just what I want when I walk away from the car with the...

    Parking brake in cold temps

It's true for Ottawa. I don't use my hand brake in winter for that reason. Put your automatic in park and your manual in top gear/reverse depending on facing up/down hill. Brian

    Car Fresheners

Don't need one, but I wish I could just get rid of the new car smell. Although only getting the truck at August's end, I quickly did a leather treatment in hopes of masking the "just-manufactured" aroma. No such luck! Brian

    Parking heater (Webasto) on CX-5?

Nah, doesn't sound manly to me. Just screw the toque on tighter. Shovel one width from the house to the vehicle, and another width from the vehicle back to the house (up hill BOTH ways, of course). Brian

16s with winter tires on gt

Oh, I don't know. My 16" 70 series winters don't look that good, and they don't corner as well, and they are if not noisier at least do have a lower drone note on the highway. What they offer (aside from the better snow performance which the weather has not yet allowed me to confirm) is a...

    Winter Tires

Just returned from the local Kal Tire. The CX-5 now sports new steel 16" wheels mounting 225/70R16 Michelin X-ice 2 Latitude tires. All in 1,314.78. I will likely see CT shortly for plastic wheel covers to ease the severity of the look. Brian

Why I chose the Honda CRV over the Mazda CX5

As CX-SV noted below, the leather/vinyl is also so much easier to clean when children do what they do in the seat behind you as assorted crud rests on rather than soaking into the upholstery (think spilled milk souring in the foam as an example). I point out that there is no free ride. The...

Why I chose the Honda CRV over the Mazda CX5

Agree. My Volvo S70 was the family hauler and item transporter (lumber, toys, x-mas trees) for 13.5 years. When I sold her for the CX-5 the leather seat faces were in very good condition and the vinyl seat backs were perfect. Brian

    Took Possession 21 August 2012

I have had the CX-5 for 2 months. In that time I have only traveled 2,600 km as my summer ride (MX-5) will only go into winter storage this weekend; and I take every possible trip in the convertible. In that time I have gotten to know the trucklet only a bit better given the short distance...

    CX-5 Weathertech Mats - Toronto

I think there is no need for concern. I picked up mine when I took delivery in August. The button hole aside, they are very much like the molded trays I had for a decade in my rpevious Volvo. These were also thin black plastic but wore very well and are now with her new owner. Brian

What did you pay for your CX-5?

Purchased in Ottawa. Got GT with Technology Package, winter floor trays, carpet floor mats, cargo tray, cargo cover, mud guards front/rear, rear bumper guard, trailer hitch/wire adapter, locking wheel nuts, touch-up paint pen, registration. Out the door all-in for 39530$ Brian

    Dead Pedal Fix

Stealing another's idea, I did the rubber-stair-tread-for-dead-pedal install. During the process I noted that in less than 1000 km the right heel area of the carpet mat was beginning to wear. With lots of materials left over, I cut a rounded corner rectangle the size of the heel insert area on...

    CX-5 Class III Hitch available

Are these noises when hauling, or without pressure on the hitch? I have the Mazda installed hitch and it is noise-free; but I have yet to install the platform and haul something. Brian

I am faced with the same problem. Have you confirmed that the 16" wheels will fit on the GT? Brian
