Using this for 6 months as front parking sensors (2016 CX-5)

Let me explain. When setting it up 1st. time you need to calibrate. Takes a wee bit of time. The display shows similar lines like CX-5 reverse camera guide lines. Propagating outwards in semi-circular lines (like the Wifi symbol in iPhone). There are 2 sensors - so 2 propagating sets of lines...

If he has moon roof - then the OEM moon roof deflector $70 USD helps a lot.

    Map Cost?

Exactly. 100% agree. Hate those phone mounts. As for your question - its pretty darn costly. I am in same boat as you. Here's my take on this: The updates offered are a load of BS, YMMV. About 18 months back exit # changed near where i live, important highway. Around Q4 2017 updates rolled out...

Using this for 6 months as front parking sensors (2016 CX-5)

my garage changes - there are 6 parking spots and approach is horrendous. Almost all cars parked there has scratches, dents. Then - in the offsite location I need to park again in a very tight spot and cant add anything to walls there as don't own it.

    Infotainment Hack

I agree with you - 100%. There's a Mazda Corp. bulletin which says to dealers discussing these hacks. Using which the dealer refused. Thanks - didn't know about re-enabling USB access. Good to know. Thanks. Stand corrected. Serial cable then no more required unless user foolishly upgraded again...

Front? Rear? [I'd dare venturing here and say - Rear?]

    CX-5 Accessory must haves?

Chris - a hypothetical question - if Mazda engineers get hold of your car, will they recognize it, as theirs originally? (cabpatch)

    Ceramic Nano Coating or PPF

I have the nose mask. Horrible looking. Rhino. But when I am going to God Forsaken places where I know will be hit by stone chips, etc. and / or a long +200 mile drive I put that thing on. I never, ever keep it on more than few days at a stretch as I have heard causes issues to the underlying...

    Ceramic Nano Coating or PPF

Now that - is a different beast. Those films are super strong. Somewhere here there's a thread of a guy @ Aus. who drove over horrible conditions and had 3M VentureShield (I think) and nada - nothing. Those things self heal also, I think.

How long are you lurking here? The critics here rip you apart if you are wrong. Could not take a chance, had to be sure. LOL. This is Mazda - perfection is demanded, every time....

Using this for 6 months as front parking sensors (2016 CX-5)

In my both cars - batteries are still okay, about 20% and assure you: heavy usage. User manual says averages around 6 months. Best part: Simple AA battery!! There's 2 ways to activate this - 1. the smart phone itself has an app and you can keep it running or bring it up (do not recommend it) 2...

2017+ CX-5 front and rear bumper trim

Sorry guys to to put water over the fire but: I have a 2016 and bought almost identical ones off eBay. Actually, the ones I bought were really tough plastic, pretty thick, etc. Again - no drilling, etc. required. Looked identical, also painted. Issue - after an year, yanked them off. The front...

Using this for 6 months as front parking sensors (2016 CX-5)

As many know, Aussies get the goodies like front parking sensors, whereas here in US it's not even on the menu. What's offered are the rear parking sensors at a rather hefty price which BTW - no one installs (almost) since rear camera is default. Anyways - due to a peculiar and rather...

    Ceramic Nano Coating or PPF

Alphadog - ceramic coats go on really thin and very liquid. Its actually not easy to apply. I found waxing considerably easier and more forgiving. In fact, detail shops undergo training for the real good ceramic coating OptiCoat, for example - on how to apply it.

    Ceramic Nano Coating or PPF

Nothing beats 3 to 4 times clay/polish/wax. Period. Ceramic coating are a joke for the price. I was quoted 5 year protection for $900. My detailing routing costs me $100 a pop or $300 / yearly. Do the maths - the final 2 years 4th and 5th. seems to be worth it. But did you know these coatings...

    Infotainment Hack

You can remove it but: - when Mazda releases the next firm wire it'll wipe out your hack. Then guess what? In case you want back the hack - you'll need that serial cable again. - AIO offers other stuff too - in case in future you need to upgrade/add: you'll need the cable. Here's the worst...

Off Topic Honda CRV 1.5t engine recall in China

200% correct. 1st: I would not even glance at figures showing acceleration, etc., ever. If I need to - I'd save $ and buy a Porche where such factors - matter. For me - it's a family 4-banger. Period. Into which I get at zero costs: no CVT, awesome handling, riding dynamics and throttle...

Not your typical door lock question

You have set it to "Lock all" in "Park". As soon as you enter and close the door - the gear's in park. So the vehicle thinks it needs to lock it and so it does exactly that. Ideal situation will be unlock@Park, lock@Drive. GxIbm is correct.
