Mazda's intent was to design a turbo engine with a focus on low end power which would improve towing for whatever SUV they put it in. It was never intended to compete with engines that develop their power at high rpms. So don't expect it to "open up" with age.

I had the same thing happen to my 2013 2.0l back in the day with less than 50k miles. I cleaned the MAS and housing a couple of times, but it kept coming back a couple of thousand miles later. Sold the car so I never knew what the final outcome was.

That wouldn't have made a difference in my case as I was unaware the hatch had been signaled to open from where I was on the other side of the house.

Same thing happened to me when my wife asked me to change the battery in her fob. The car was parked in the garage and I was in my office about 100' or so away, but not far enough to prevent my inadvertently hitting the button and raising the hatch up into the open garage door. Just finished...

You don't know what it's called to find it. Just go to an OEM parts lite like this Liftgate for 2017 Mazda CX-5 | OEM Parts Online and look up "lift gate parts". How about #12 or 13?

Or "trim clips". What is the black plastic piece in the picture that they were apparently securing? Look that up on a Mazda parts site and you may be able to get part nos for the associated clips.

I had a 2013 that leaked at the HCSL (high center stop light) after it was improperly installed during a collision damage repair. Other than that, the hatch back doors on these cars are not particularly prone to leakage.

I've had two CX-5s and a 3 and have noticed the same thing. Between 5-10k the engine seems to find its stride. I also change my oil every 5k miles (including the initial change), partly because I drive less than 10k per year.

It's a 2024! Where's your dealer for warranty work?
