2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I guess I've been lucky with vehicles (not that I have owned very many of them; maybe I'm not old enough to have experienced anything). This is the first motor related issue in my 22 years of driving (and I come from a family that buys new and drives it down to the ground. All vehicles have hit...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I think the service advisor should have stated cracked cylinder head at cylinder 2 (not a crack in cylinder 2). In any case, they will be replacing the cylinder head when the part arrives (hopefully shortly after the new year). Only downside to living in Canada is that the same TSB (that is...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I still do not have any oil puddles under the car in the garage. I can now see some oil on the undercarriage plastic towards the back of the compartment (below the exhaust heat shield). I think most of the oil is getting evaporated/burnt off in the engine compartment while the car is running...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

I only noticed the smell and smoke coming from the engine bay at the end of Oct/ beginning of November, so there's no reason to believe this was an issue prior to Oct/Nov. In other words, it spat out/burned ~1 L of oil in the 3 weeks time that the oil change occurred and when I brought it back...

2.5L NA Cracked Cylinder Head with Oil Leaking

To bring back a 3 month old thread, I may be one of the chosen unlucky owner. 2018 CX5 GT, purchased brand new. Current Odo: ~35000 km/~22000 miles. Oil changed every 6 months at Mazda dealership (I live in Canada and it's 8000km/6 months interval). Last oil change was on Nov 22, 2021. When I...

Tried testing SCBS & SBS today

+1 for kicking in twice here as well (with cars at least). Once was on the highway going about 110 km/h and the other on a city road going about 60km/h. It hit the brakes pretty hard both times with a bit of tire squeal, but both times I was pretty close to the car ahead.

    Brake squeak after sitting

I notice this on mine as well ('18 GT). On a slightly related note, I'm absolutely pissed off with the quality of the rear rotors. I've got noticeable grooves on both rear rotors (both sides of the rotors), <9000 miles. I guess I'll have to have a chat with Mazda when I'm in there for my...

    Leave Headlight Switch On Auto?

Mine is set to Auto as well. I've never once used high beams as I don't see a need in my use situation, the standard low-beams are bright enough for my needs.

TPMS light on my CX5 2019

Drove all last winter on my steelies/winters without TMPS. I don't even notice the warning light on the dash cluster, especially since you rarely have to look down if you have the HUD.

Oil change at 4 months or 5k miles...True?

There are views/opinions from individuals who believe that brand new motors should undergo its first oil change early to remove "manufacturing leftovers" that may impact the life of the motor/drivetrain. If following Mazda's recommendations, you should either be on a 6 month/5k or 12 month/7.5k...

    Question on DRL's

The manual says the DRL's "turn on automatically when the vehicle starts moving" and "turn off when you put it in P or set the parking brake". I don't think a specified speed the car has to reach before it turns on is given.

when does low fuel indicator come on?

I usually don't let it run that low, but the last couple of times I've done this, there was 10+L/2.5+ gallons left in the tank.

    Hacks/USB on 2019 CX-5..Do they work?

It works with the v70.00.335 firmware, but it will require you to perform a serial hack (i.e. removing some interior trim and hard wiring into your CMU) and running some commands through a serial interface on a laptop. After this you access via USB.

    Trip Computer MPG

I've been tracking fuel economy since I got my car about a year ago, and I'm with bluegrass on this one. My manual calculation is always lower than stated by the on board computer. Not a big concern for me, since it is within my personal acceptable range.

Dealer says no transmission dipstick on 2018 CX5

There's a lot of debate as to what the definition, or specifically Mazda's definition of "lifetime" is, and with lots of people on both sides of the change/don't change trans fluid camps. Many people (my mechanic friend included) suggest fluid and filter change at 70-80K miles.

Rear Cross Traffic Alert - where is sensor located?

BSM System I know the image in the link is not referring to the KF (2017+), but the location is the same. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert uses the BSM Control Modules underneath the bumper as Studum already pointed out.

2019 GX (Canada) - cylinder decativation

I was under the impression that all 2.5 NA CX5's were affected, but you are right. The Canadian GX does not have cylinder deactivation according to the Canadian spec sheet.
