A presumed safety item that isn't safe - daytime running lights

We have multiple drivers of one of our cars (not my MX5, of course) and no one even thinks about turning off the headlights. So for 17 years, that's never been an issue for us.

    2012 Mazda3 seat removal question

I have to ask, but does your wife weigh 300 lbs? I've never heard of a seat rail breaking. Do you know how it happened?

    I miss my Mazda3

Yes, it had electronically adjustable shocks and some had rear steering. It was compared to the Honda Prelude and Acura Integra at the time. I bought it from a teacher who one year prior was driving it when there developed a coolant leak. By the time he pulled over, the engine has overheated...

    I miss my Mazda3

My 89 MX6 GT Turbo (boosted to about 10 psi) with Eibach springs, 16-inch wheels, Glowshift gauges on a pillar pod, and Magnaflow exhaust was my favorite car for the money. My MX5 is a close second but for different reasons.

Smoke only on downhills? 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3

It's an inexpensive job that wouldn't hurt to do. My 89 MX6 GT Turbo had about 135,000 miles on it when I sold it, and its original turbo was still good at the time. Boost was about 4-6 psi higher than factory, so nothing crazy. But you are correct in that there aren't typically too many...

    Mazda3 battery replacement (hidden surprise)

Thanks for the link. My son has a 2012 Mazda 3 hatch with Skyactive and he has replaced his battery a few time without any issues. The first time he did it I loaned him by terminal wire brush cleaners and anti-corrosion spray. Did you get any codes when your engine was running rough? In the...

    Mazda3 battery replacement (hidden surprise)

Is this in your owner's manual? I have not yet replaced batteries in my 3, as it has the i-ELOOP battery and super capacitor. The dealership does do some resets after installation.

2014 Mazda3: Timing chain cover leaking

As an FYI, this issue falls under "minor engine issues" among the many reliability categories that Consumer Reports tracks over the past 8 years. The Mazda 3 has a consistent much better than average rating from 2013 to 2020. The Toyota Corolla, its competitor, has identical overall reliability...

Agreed. It may not get any worse for quite a few years.

2014 Mazda3: Timing chain cover leaking

Thankfully, it rarely gets anywhere near freezing temperatures, here in Southern California. My son has a 2012 Mazda 3 with 100,000 miles or so on it and there does not appear to be any oil seepage.
