A penny for your thoughts; How a simple P0340 code turned into a slightly major ordeal

By the way, you should be able to rent vehicles long or short term via Turo. I recently rented a Prius for a week while in Conn. That thing averaged about 47 MPG and cost about $45 per day.

Mazda3 Dash lights up like a Christmas tree, temporary loss of electric power

Yes, you should not be able to grab either battery terminal connector and rotate it. If you can, it requires tightening. Here's an explanation of the capacitor in my Mazda 3: I believe it was used for only a few years, starting in 2014. Only top trim levels had this option, I believe.

Mazda3 Dash lights up like a Christmas tree, temporary loss of electric power

I would not assume that the battery is NOT faulty. Does your car have a super capacitor? In any case, you should try to rotate each battery terminal connector to see if either one is loose.

2013~2016 My 2016 would not start this morning

Also, check for current draw on the battery. My Daughter had a new battery fail to charge completely after only 3-4 months. Bad batteries are infrequent but not impossible to find.

    20,000 miles in a CX5 GT-R...

I've owned 7 Mazdas and none cost me more than a few hundred dollars after 100,000 miles. Consumer Reports collects data on tens of thousands of Mazdas, every year. I'm certainly not saying that you are not telling the truth, but odds are good that an extended warranty for three years is not...

    20,000 miles in a CX5 GT-R...

I agree. As I may have mentioned, of the 26 auto companies listed by CR for best to worst reliability, Mazda is number 1. Buying an extended warranty for a new Mazda is the last thing most people should want to do. My 2014 has been absolutely perfect and so has my 08 MX5 with an exception of a...

Problems with 2005 Mazda3 replacement brake caliper

Exactly. Many years ago I gravity bled and then used a device that converts compressed air to vacuum (Piab makes them) but I think the best and safest way is to use a brake fluid reservoir pressurized tank that is plumbed to the master cylinder. (See below link for an example...

CX-5 Turbo - Remove Catalytic Convertor

I rented a 2014 Corvette, not too long ago. The original owner had removed the cats before the current owner bought the car. I'm not sure how it was smog-checked before the sale. But without the cats I could not leave off the targa top. At a stop light my eyes would tear up. Sometimes I am...

    Off Topic Rav4 Prime XSE

That is an excellent writeup! Consumer Reports rates the CX5 with an overall score of 83, whereas the Prime is close at 79. Road test scores are better for the Prime at 85 but CR rated the non-turbo CX5 at 78. Gas mileage, of course is not even close but Mazda snags a "Much better than average...

Confusing battery test results, any experts?

Dealers will often charge you to test almost anything. If the part is bad and under warranty they will most likely cancel the charge. However, be prepared to spend a good chunk of change if the part is good. I learned that the hard way. So it's best to try to determine if the battery is bad...
