What have you done to your P5 today?

You're going to think this is silly, but the title of the thread is literally "What have you done to your P5 today?" So remember... "You asked!" ;) I replaced the little foam seal on my air intake. The old one was crumbling, and while it wasn't allowing unmetered air or anything, I wanted to...

What have you done to your P5 today?

I drove my 86-year-old friend home to a party this past weekend in my Miata. (When I asked if she wanted me to bring the Miata or the hatchback, she readily agreed to the convertible and brought a scarf to keep her hair in place.) As we were driving back from the party, we saw a cloud of smoke...

What have you done to your P5 today?

I replaced the remaining, passenger front strut and there was some carnage on that side. I couldn't get the upper rubber spring seat off the coil spring without my mini sledge. The original factory bearing had separated on this side, whereas it was "only" oozing on the driver's side. The KYB...

Have you purchased anything for your Mazda from these websites?

Any site attached to a dealership should be legit, and they typically prominently display on their website that they are in fact dealerships. I've bought from mazdastuff.com before; I think they're a dealer here in Texas. Mazdaswag.com is also a dealer, and I've bought from them too. BAM...

Protege5 Cylinder 3 misfire, spark plugs

I've had a few misfires on my P5 over the last 21 years, and I think they've all been fixed by replacing the coils. The Hitachi coils you got are the OEM part, they're the best replacements, and they will last a long time (vs. Autozone coils that will invariably puke after a short time...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Since I recently replaced the rear struts with Mazda OEM (~$80 apiece, made by Tokico), I tried to order Mazda OEMs for the front (~$120 apiece), but no dice. Mazda no longer offers OEM front struts for our cars. Parts used to rebuild front strut assemblies today: Bought Chinese-made Sachs...

Out with the old (intake tube) and in with the new

An oil change place cracked my intake tube (resulting in pinging) and broke the handle off the oil dipstick right before a planned eleven-hour trip. The shop manager admitted fault and wrapped the intake tube with filament tape. That stuff worked great and got me to Santa Fe and back, no problem.

Vibration upon acceleration in 1st and 2nd

It may help if you can get a video (just for the sound) of the behavior and share it here. I had some weird noises once that turned out to be loose exhaust shielding.

What have you done to your P5 today?

Looking at my receipt, the fog light was $17, the jack was $8, and the master window switch was $21. On car-part.com, US prices vary wildly for fog lights: Varies from $27 to $85 (shipping is probably extra). Side note: Looks like car-part.com currently has an MP3 ECU listed if anyone is...

What have you done to your P5 today?

Went to the salvage yard today and got a fog light to replace the one which has had a hole in it for ten years. Better late than never, eh? Picked up an extra master power window switch since I'd had one go bad in the past. I went spelunking in several Mazdas for a roadside jack, but they...

    Protege5 Coolant loss at/near radiator

Got the new radiator from Amazon installed today. Part is a Denso 221-3506. It's spec'd for an automatic transmission, but I understand that it works in my manual transmission-equipped vehicle. Everything fits great except the radiator cap... Wait, what? I had to go to O'Reilly and buy a...
