Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Hello again, a quick update. As of a minute or two ago, I still have the P0300 code, idle is bad once hot, but I finally passed the evap leak test I think for the first time since I got the scanner. To do this, I drove the car roughly a 24 mile trip (12 miles both ways, give or take) and while...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Since Friday, the MAF was installed and still have hot idle and as of yesterday, got a new code, P0172, rich condition with the P0300 and P0102 codes pending as of late yesterday. I did attempt to clean the throttle body but will need to actually pull that and clean the backside, it's indeed...

    100K MP5 Club

'03 Mazda Protege 5, 188K+ original miles, still runs strong, albeit poor hot idle at the moment of which I'm trying to get to the bottom of with the Launch scanner as my assistance. It's on either its second (not as likely) or third timing belt, replaced that this July when the tensioner...

    Am I ready?

Having read this and have some questions that concern me. First off, 100K miles and you think it might be time to sell? These cars, if taken care of and not abused, no salt/rust issues to deal with can, and do last to at LEAST 180K US miles in good health, I know as my 2003 P5 is still a...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Update, the MAF came in today and it's been replaced, the P0102/103 codes, gone, still have the P0300, at least for a time, with the Launch, I've cleared the codes before I left and shortly after that first clear, got the P0300 (randome misfire), cleared it again and eventually the light came...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

I know, we do have emissions in this state, at least through the end of the year then the program goes away but my car is an odd year vehicle so I'm due for its last inspection however. Essentially odd year vehicles on odd years, even year models on even years is how they do the inspections...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

A brief update; I should have the MAF sensor ordered by now if not at some point today via Amazon because I have access to Prime (via a friend) so we can get it within a couple of days most likely as time is of the essence due to hoping to avoid having a damaged cat. So far, I've not run into...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

First off, this motor appears to be NON interference and has never been rebuilt and I didn't hear anything hit anything, just it stopped running and the dash lights came on. Starts fine, sounds normal and a simple blip of the key get is going once warmed up acceleration is really good for 188K+...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Yeah, that has indeed crossed my mind, especially for the coils as I can get TWO of those buggers for the price of just one at Rock Auto (around 23 dollar and change) for one at Rock Auto, the same price for both via Amazon. heck, even the Delphi units sold at Rock were MUCH cheaper than the...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Quite possibly and going with either Amazon or Rock Auto will yield one at a decent to quite affordable price point, rather than upwards of $400 for a Delphi unit locally.

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Actually, the P0102 is for low air flow, not voltage. The reading the scanner gave me is 7Lb/s I believe it was so above the 217g/s max. It needs to be above 0g/s and 217g/s so that is the issue? Anyway, went to find a JIS bit for removing the IAC valve to ensure it's clean and had to Google...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

As to the flashing CEL, it only did it for a bit then went back to solid red by the next day and has stayed that way since.

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

I've heard of that, yes, also water too or water and soap. Tried the water in a spray bottle and so far have not found any leaks when I last did it a week or so ago.

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

I never did disconnect the battery, but accidentally did leave the ignition in the "on" position while working on the belt and it did spank the battery enough to where it was 11-12 Volts though so a jump start got it going again. Yes, it did upset the settings on my head unit (not factory, was...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Interesting you bring up the timing marks for the cams. Midnightcoder said that his were a touch lower than true level and if I recall right, even Tyler of Tyler's Neighborhood Garage on YT had one cam (exhaust if I recall, just mike Midnightcoder and mine) be like that too when he did a...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Intake tube has been replaced twice, the first was the original when the car was then 13 years old and had literally split at the ribbing and did cause driveability issues as the car would occasionally violently misfire from too much air all at once I think. I replaced it 2 weekends ago when I...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

PCB, interesting, though I had the radiator replaced 2 years ago and I can't recall if that sensor had been replaced and I believe I spotted it checking codes etc yesterday (and cleaning the MAF sensor while at it) to see if that helped things. Not sure if it did. After I got it sprayed and...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Here is an update of my issues. Picked up the Launch Creader V+ scan tool the other day and have done some scanning and got 5 codes and they are as follows; P0102, MAF low P0103 MAF voltage circuit too high P0230 Camshaft sensor (mine has scratches on the surface, bad?) P0300 (obviously as...

Poor hot idle after a timing belt replacement

Thank you! I will do some more checking. The air hose from the filter box to the throttle body got replaced over the past weekend when I accidentally broke the little plastic nipple that a vacuum hose (I think it is) that goes from the hose to the valve cover broke on me so that's good, but...
