Rattle in defrost vent (2015 CX-9)...Help

You likely know this already but sound can really travel in a vehicle. Have you checked the cowl area under the windshield and the firewall? I once had an acorn up by my wipers and I could swear the sound it made was coming from the area near my radio.

    Dealer recommended conventional oil?

Any sentence that starts with "Dealer service said..." is sure to end in complete BS or an outright lie. They are commissioned sales people disguised as advisors; and sadly they have managed to become the worst of the worst at the dealership.

    2007~2015 Rear Caliper Bolts

They are sound dampeners and the lower is the proper spot. Some vehicles have different sizes on the threads as well to ensure they end up in the right spot, apparently not on the CX9 though.

    Tow Hitch

The platform I mentioned just slides right into the receiver of the hitch, pretty much like the hitch mounted bike carriers you'll see on lots of vehicles. I have not seen them for rent anywhere though and they are pretty cheap to purchase if you will be using one regularly. The platform is...

    Tow Hitch

What do you plan on putting on the hitch to transport the sheet goods? If it's a trailer you'll need the wiring as well. The only things that I can think of that don't need the wiring are bike racks and small 'platforms' that attach to the receiver. Neither seems very suitable for your needs...

    Center ac vent

I often wondered about that myself. I mount my phone up there on a vent mounted clip and when using the AC it's annoying not being able to close the vent. Been living with it since 2012 though.

    Changing Brake Booster insights

I am not sure what year your vehicle is, but do you qualify for the brake booster recall? Mine did and the job was done under that recall. I have a 2012. I'm not sure if your mileage is too high but it may be worth having a discussion with them about any options you may have.

    CX-9 liftgate won't close

Can you open it completely? If so perhaps an object is stuck in the latch mechanism causing it to bind up. Other than unlocking all the doors from the drivers switch and seeing if that puts it back to normal I'm not sure what else you can do.

    2014 Mazda CX-9 continuous engine problems...Help!

If they did $6,000 worth of work and within a year you have the same issue it should be under at least a one year warranty. One thing is for sure, if they are not fixing it under warranty I'd get it the hell out of there and see them in small claims court.

2007~2015 Changing CX-9 transfer case gear oil (photos)

There is no video as far as I know. You remove the transfer case and the driveshaft to the rear and that's it. I don't know if the passenger side front axle has to come out and go back in during the process.

A few questions for all my 2013 CX-9 owners

Given that it happens when the weight shifts during turns it 'could' be the wheel bearing. Usually the one that's going is the one opposite to the direction you are turning, guessing right front in your case. Also, that would not necessarily show up during an alignment as it's not really part...

2016~2023 Advice for servicing the CX-9 for the first time?

Find the right shop and you'll be much better off. A good shop will do what's needed and charge a reasonable price and not try to up-sell all kinds of BS 'recommended maintenance'.

Drilling holes for installation of license plate

Given that you will be bolting, or screwing, the plate bracket directly on that spot I think that will hold the film down. I would be sure to use a very fresh bit (or bits). Whoever installs the bracket may want to start with a smaller bit to make the pilot hole perfectly in the center of the...

Relay in the front of the engine compartment?

I seems that you do have two relays in there - one is just larger than the other. From what I can see both relay spots are filled.

2016~2023 Advice for servicing the CX-9 for the first time?

Great advice in both replies above. Make sure you look at the service manual that came with the vehicle and do not do anything other than what that calls for. The 'recommended' services are complete nonsense for the most part. On the older CX-9's the one thing that dealers should have...

    2013 PTU replacement

Wow, yeah just took a close look and they are really chewed up. Comparing the clean splines where at the bottom of that input shaft shows a huge difference with the part that engages the transmission. Not knowing what the transmission shaft looked like it sure does make this repair a little...

    Pending transfer case failure

If it goes and takes the output splines from the transmission with it then, in theory, you 'should' be fine. Basically, if the output shaft is no longer trying to spin the gears in the PTU there should be no further issues. This is not based on personal experience but based on reading other...

    Pending transfer case failure

There are threads on this forum about completely removing the transfer case and drive shaft thus converting the vehicle to FWD only. I'm not sure if this is an option you want to consider, but it does seem to extend the useful life of the vehicle if you can live with FWD only.

    Catalytic converter question

There are tools that allow shops to diagnose and pinpoint exact problems. There are pretty simple checks for the O2 sensors and they can also perform a capacity test on the cats. It may be worth your while spending a few bucks on diagnostic time at a competent shop with proper diagnostic...

Transfer case leaking again - question

If I was going to the trouble of topping it off I would pump out the old stuff first. I know the OP does not intend on keeping the vehicle but regardless to pump out the old and replace is really not much more effort. Also, if the vehicle will be sold it'll be one less sticking point that...
