could you put a horizontal cross brace in there to help support it? It wouldn't eliminate the possibility of cracking, but it would certainly help with minor flexing. You could even shape the brace a little bit to give the plexi a bump up in the middle so it doesn't sag.

if I had one of those mounts I'd have to figure out a good way to route the wire. I'm not a fan of a wire hanging down in front of my deck that will inevitably get caught when I shift. A nice in dash GPS would just look SO much cleaner. But I do like the pocket you get with a single din deck.

As long as you use a good waterproof sealing product, have some slight convex shape to it and doesn't depress in the middle I wouldn't think you'd need to worry about drainage. You might be able to coat it with something so it beads up and slides off better.
