    Autocross Budget Beater

If you are interested, a few of those hardcore Kelowna folks regularly make the trek from Kelowna to Pitt Meadows (near Metro Vancouver) to join the local Vancouver clubs (VCMC and UBCSCC) for some autox action on a giant pad. IIRC, one of the groups share a CSP Miata as well as an E36 BMW...

    Autocross Budget Beater

Good job! Glad to see another BC Mazda2 onboard! Kelowna has a bunch of active autox / motorsports folks, and I hope you'd join them some time for some good ol' motorsports fun!

Clutch news for my '14 sport 2

Whoa~! Thanks for the update again, OK Vol! Would you have the new part # for the updated master cylinder by any chance? Seems a bit strange that they also saw a need to replace the (clutch) pedal though...

MPG: The Secret to my Success.

As a data point, I want to share that my "best" gas mileage in the 2 to date is 14.12L / 100km (or 16.66 mpg) when I took the car out to the local race track. And there is really no secret to how you can achieve this -- just get on the throttle as early as you can, and keep it planted against...

    Ethanol-free gas worth it?

With the few cars I've had, none of them have any real issues with ethanol-blended fuel. As a matter of fact, the VW 1.8T actually seems to prefer E90, with the engine running a bit smoother and more rev happy. The only times when I have issues with ethanol fuel is when a car needs to be stored...

    Ethanol-free gas worth it?

I agree that fuel economy should be marginally better. In the absence of an aftermarket tune (doesn't seem like the OP has one), I'd also agree that the performance should be marginally worse. With as many mods as the OP has on the car, however, I'd strongly recommend BigBlueDart to go with his...

    Mazda 2 / Demio thoughts?

For gas mileage, you might want to look into what people have been getting on Fuelly.com: http://www.fuelly.com/car/mazda/2 One peculiar thing I've noticed with the 2's gas mileage is, it absolutely sucks during idle. Whenever I run into situations where I need to idle a lot, I can pretty much...

    Just ordered a new Mazda2

In Canada at least, Scion will not bring the iA back into Toyota since (nearly) the same car is already available as the Yaris sedan: http://www.scion.ca/scion/en/about/news/post/scion-brand-to-transition-to-toyota In the US, Scion has also announced that the iA (along with the iM and FRS)...

    Tire Choices

Much to my surprise, tire manufacturers are actually recommending that 205 tires can still be fitted on a 5.5" wide wheel, when I think the ideal size is really 7.5". So yes, as utmorpheus says, go wild with 195 or 205 if you want something wide. But I can't imagine what the steering response...

    Skeletonized key

Just to confirm -- is the transponder the black piece at the corner of the white plastic trim?

    Winter's tough on the 2

Haha~ Canadian winters are certainly "fun", aren't they? Where in Canucksville are you located, friend? I've had my share of -20C winters in Ontario many moons ago, and I certainly don't miss those days...

So, how have you been enjoying your new 2? I sure hope you've been having too much fun to keep us updated? ;)

    Speaker Sizes F/R

Alloy wheels don't mean much since they can be easily swapped onto / off the car. I'd look for these to find out which trim level your car is: GX base - no cruise control - un-painted (outside) door handles - all black cloth seat GX + convenience package - cruise control - on-dash info...

    Speaker Sizes F/R

For the Canadian-spec cars, the base GX trim comes only with 2 front speakers. The GX + convenience package has 4 speakers, and the GS trim has 6 speakers.

    Why buy a Miata?

Hey Parallax, It is interesting that you brought up the NC and ND questions right after my Mazda test drive even yesterday. I used to daily my NC Miata in addition to the huge amount of autox (in STR class) that I did. I also track the car regularly, so suffice to say, I enjoy having fun with...

    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

Hello C7SCayman, Please don't take this the wrong way, but there really is no other approach for me to break this to you. When you are off pace by ~5 sec compared to another car in your class (ie. the FiST) in a 40-something second course, you are not anywhere "close". Even if you are 0.5 sec...

    2015 plans

In the foreseeable future at least, I don't intend to use the 2 as my main autox car -- I have an STR Miata for that, and I'd have to say that car is a little bit more fun than the 2. My 2 was purchased solely because I was looking for a cheap, good, reliable, and most important of all, fun car...

    2015 plans

Jeff, Once again, I appreciate the thoroughness of your insights. And much like yourself, I agree that building a 100% autox car in ST* will make it far too uncomfortable for street use. (By definition, SCCA claims that ST* cars are supposed to be "street friendly".) Even with Street / Stock...
