    Mazda developing staight-six engines

This news surprised me a lot. Mazda seemed like they were committed to being a 4-cylinder engine company only. They weren't the only ones. Subaru, Volvo, and others are 4-banger only. This would be a good move as many people still write off vehicles that don't have 6-cylinders. With Mazda...

    2020 Refresh Speculation

If I were you, I'd definitely wait until the fall to see what happens if you can. You could always fall back on a leftover 2019 if for some reason, the changes aren't satisfactory. Doubtful though.

    2020 Refresh Speculation

A 2020 refresh is all but certain. It'll already be the 5th model year although this model was a delayed 2016 release making it closer to it's 4th year. Design still looks fresher than new for 2020 competitors (Explorer, Highlander, Telluride, IMO. Mazda is always a step ahead so they'll freshen...

    2020 Highlander vs 2nd generation CX-9

While I would have liked to see it about 8" bigger, it's certainly not going to be the main thing that hinders sales. I think styling might be the main reason some will turn away. Not every entry needs to be near Traverse size. That said, the main complaint I always read about mid-size 3-rows is...

    CX9 / CX5 Redesign?

The only reason I'd consider a diesel version of something is if it had significantly better mileage and this doesn't over the standard 2.5. Diesel costs more in the US and is harder to find.

    2020 Highlander vs 2nd generation CX-9

This is all new, well, aside from the usual engine/tranny carryover. 4th generation. I agree with others, they missed the mark on many aspects with this one. In 2018, I was between the Highlander and CX-9 and fortunately went with Mazda. I'd never consider this one. They bucked the trend of...

What have you done to your CX-9 today?

    ^^ Looking sweet. (2thumbs)

    CX9 / CX5 Redesign?

As expected, the reveal was just a diesel CX-5. No noticeable difference in body. Not sure why the mysterious countdown to hype nothing but a diesel option.

Maintenance guidelines makes no mention of addressing carbon buildup / valve cleaning

I noticed in the dealer service center the usual pamphlets out for numerous services provided. One of them was the BG fuel system cleaning service. So while the owners manual doesn't mention this, the dealer does point out the service option, at least indirectly.

    2018 vs. 2019

There's also the addition of ventilated seats. I have AA/CP in my Mazda 6 and it works pretty well. Although I honestly just use Mazda Connect on a daily basis because I'm mainly just listening to XM radio. So I haven't felt it worth spending the $400 to upgrade the CX-9.

Mazda continues to be slow with model year changeovers - current Mazda 6 still a 2018

Mazda finally announced the 2019 Mazda 6. Will go on sale later this month. Main changes are active safety features now standard in lower trims. Kia's like, "2019 is so last year".

Maintenance guidelines makes no mention of addressing carbon buildup / valve cleaning

Good points. I had forgotten Dave Coleman's addressing of this issue (as described in Savagegeese's review). I imagine Mazda is confident enough that buildup won't occur, at least in damaging amounts to not make it a maintenance issue. They also sell 100K extended warranties (I got one) with...

Maintenance guidelines makes no mention of addressing carbon buildup / valve cleaning

Flipped through the maintenance manual again to see if the schedule called for any such service and it's ignored. Every other thing you can think of is supposed to be checked regularly (some things that usually are of no consequence). Yet, this critical thing to engine longevity gets no...

    Paint defect? Covered by warranty?

Agreed, that's an easy spot to touch up and barely notice unless you're really looking for it.

    2020 Refresh Speculation

Oh yeah, the new key fob introduced on new Mazda 3. Although it's bigger which I wish wasn't the case. I also forgot about the chance for new wheels. I would say that is likely.

    Paint defect? Covered by warranty?

That's very odd if that did chip off by itself, on a back facing surface. Are you absolutely certain the hood wasn't lifted with the wiper arm up? It does line up. Also, is it possible you hit it with an ice scraper. That's a spot vulnerable to ice scrapers. Just shooting out possible...

Difference between base Mazda 3 & 6 is now only $900 for '19

I definitely agree with the fun factor. A stick will make even a slow car fun to drive. So long as you're not commuting in gridlock traffic every day.

Mazda announces end of manual transmission in Mazda 6

Is that you talking or reiterating the usual internet wish list stuff? I always read such comments under car reviews. "If it had [.........], I'll buy one". I've learned not to believe such statements from the internet. Case in point, for years (at least since Mazda introduced the current...

Mazda announces end of manual transmission in Mazda 6

I see 2018 Mazda 6's everyday, not many but they're selling. Mazda moves 2,000 a month in the US. Double the CX-3. 4 times that of the Miata. And not far off the CX-9's sales.

Difference between base Mazda 3 & 6 is now only $900 for '19

Manuals may still be preferred by those that want the full feel of the driving experience. They're almost extinct now though not only because they barely sell, but because they are faster and more efficient than manuals. Manuals used to be preferred in part because they were the ones that were...
