The KBB on this is $17,500-$18K. It was a $42K car 5 years ago and the model hasn't been redesigned (a redesign immediately makes models less desirable).

At least you can be sure that this thing lived on the highway which is a plus. Not driving around the city and getting to 120K in 4-5 years. That price is very good even with the mileage. You won't find a 2nd gen for less, probably not even a base model unless it's beaten up.

There's also 2nd gen CX-9's with over 150,000 miles on them (have seen them listed for sale). Although I couldn't tell service history but pretty sure original engines. There's a '16 on Autotrader right now with 166,500 miles and looking clean.

There's 125,000 2016-2020 CX-9's on US roads. So far just a handful of these engine issues. Let's hope these examples are outliers as they seem to be. The 2.5T is also in a ton of 2018+ CX-5's and Mazda6's. And Mazda ranks #1 in reliability suggesting these are rare exceptions. Still...

Wow, I've never seen so much wear on a leather steering wheel at this mileage. Guy had some rough hands! If you really want a 2nd gen CX-9, hopefully you can save a bit longer and buy a clean one.

Definitely. What I did in this case was reinsert the front passenger headrest through the ladder holding it in place. 👍
