That chrome cross bar on the back is IMO one of the highlights of the CX-9's design as well as the Mazda6. When you compare it to the CX-5 without it, it looks empty and too plain.

    So I compared a fully-loaded $65k QX60 to the $53k CX-9 Signature..

It's weird, while many people may see similarities in the design language of Mazda and Infiniti, I love Mazda's design but Infiniti's does nothing for me. I don't care for the QX60 at all but love the CX-9's design. I wouldn't even pay $45K for a QX60.

All the added chrome is seen as making it more premium looking. If you compare the CX-9 Sport with no added chrome trim to the GT/Signature, the latter look way more upscale (the bigger wheels play a role too). Lot of people don't like it but that's why automakers are chroming up cars...

    2019 CX-9 - list of design problems/complaints

Pretty sure most OEM wheels average a good amount heavier than the average aftermarket, especially an expensive aftermarket one. OEM's are usually stronger. The CX9's you can tell are rock solid. For a 3-row crossover, it doesn't concern me that they are heavy. If I had a sports car, it would...

    2019 CX-9 - list of design problems/complaints

I'm 6'1" as well and I find the seats and wheel adjustment the best I've had in a vehicle. I don't have the seat nearly all the way back. The wheel sits half way up my thighs where my forearms are resting and I hold the wheel at the bottom. Drove from MA to FL with no fatigue. My wife is 5'...

So what are you guys paying for excise tax on your CX-9?

Our annual inspection is $35, just another tax as the service station doing the test only get a piece of that.

So what are you guys paying for excise tax on your CX-9?

So we both have '18 CX-9's. Mine is $675. There shouldn't be much evaluation difference between GT and Signature. Interesting.

So what are you guys paying for excise tax on your CX-9?

What rate is the initial sales tax? I know a lot of countries have ridiculous sales taxes and other taxes on cars that greatly increase the price of cars compared to the NA. Interesting that you guys have no required safety inspections while you own the car. Do you notice a lot of cars with...

So what are you guys paying for excise tax on your CX-9?

^ Keep in mind the excise tax is separate from the registration. We pay another registration bill every 2 years. Oh, then there's state inspection every year.

So what are you guys paying for excise tax on your CX-9?

In many states, we get a yearly excise tax bill based on a valuation on our cars. In MA, our system is very top loaded on new cars and drop off significantly each year. I imagine this is the case in other states. Trust me, if you're in a state without excise tax, consider yourself very lucky...

    Should I do it?

I'm someone who never buys an extended warranty on anything but did buy one on my '18 CX-9 for long term piece of mind on such a large purchase. For couple of reasons. One, because of the amount of electronics in new cars these days only covered to 36K on the standard warranty. Those repairs are...

At what point do you throw in the towel?

Talk about bad luck, the CX-9 is at the top of the game in quality and reliability. There's guys on here reporting over 50,000 miles without a single hiccup on their 2016's. It's too bad if it destroyed your view of Mazda.

    CX-9 2.5T drives better with 91 Octane

The likelyhood of something being wrong with a new car in that it affects fuel economy is super slim. There's millions of variables that determine economy, mostly driving style. Engine development is extremely consistent with only rare lemons. My CX-9 also hangs around 20 mpg.

Any higher mileage 2nd Gen CX-9's out there?

I'm just pointing out that we can't confuse both generations of CX-9. The transfer case had issues in the first generation but just remember that the 2nd generation is no longer a shared architecture with Ford. The current generation of Mazda's is a whole different company than the last...

Any higher mileage 2nd Gen CX-9's out there?

People keep bringing up issues that the 1st gen had assuming the 2nd gen may have those issues, like the transfer case. The 2nd gen is a completely different vehicle, a Mazda from the ground up. The 1st gen was half Ford.

    A not-so-positive review of the 2019 CX-9 Signature

It should be a compliment to CX-9 and other Mazda's that they are now being compared to higher end cars, shouldn't it? Reviewers often end up comparing it to vehicles like the MDX, etc. So how can it fall short if it rises above the competition and is compared to luxury brands at $10K more...

    A not-so-positive review of the 2019 CX-9 Signature

Thing with reviewers is that they go back and forth between classes of cars and get accustomed to luxury brands so they are quick to notice the slightest compromise.

    A not-so-positive review of the 2019 CX-9 Signature

In response to your last paragraph, there's no quality issues with the interior aside from the one section of stitching that doesn't live up to the great leather and stitching throughout. The issues you bring up are a design issue. Everything is built rock solid with the best materials in class...

    A not-so-positive review of the 2019 CX-9 Signature

Interesting. I don't feel those at all. In a Mazda 6 Signature, there's actually metal (might be chromed plastic) accents in those spots.

Any higher mileage 2nd Gen CX-9's out there?

Wow, you do some driving. You must of bought yours soon after launch? I have a lot of faith in this engine. Mazda didn't just take the existing 2.5 and slap a turbo on it. They strengthened the whole thing to accommodate the extra power and heat. They've put a lot of stock in this engine which...
