NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

I live in Montgomery County, just a few miles from Philadelphia. Emissions suck here. Thanks for the information on the heads. With regard to the chamber shape - I guess I'd have to look at the stock head & pistons to see. On the bike, it was possible to basically match the piston crown to the...

NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

Of course, but I always have to consider that the car needs to pass PA emissions. I need to keep both cats and every-day drivability. The best ECU change I could hope for would be the MP3 ECU. My understanding of that ECU is that it MOSTLY increases the ignition advance. If I did increase the CR...

NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

The JDM pistons are nice, but I was trying to do something without having to rebuild the bottom end. Junkyard heads are easy to find, and a little work on one of those keeps me in the range of a driveway swap. If I go for the JDM pistons, I would have to do it along with a rebore & new bottom...

NA Tech Race to 100whp per 1000cc's

Has anyone milled the head to get more compression ratio? The spec number of the stock motor at 9.1:1 is very low. By my calculations milling 0.025" from a stock head would get me 9.88:1. Still pretty feeble for a CR, but its better than stock. A junkyard rebuild head with a valve job and some...

    Autox mods help

You're going to get whupped in ST. If you want to win, get a Civic. If you want to have fun, show up and drive. Keep in mind that 4 or 5 autocrosses is equal to about one trackday. The trackday will teach you more. But, if you're into autocrossing & like the weekend atmosphere & cameraderie...

    WTB: Cheap Lowering Springs

I'd considered cutting some off the front coil to even out the car, but never did it. I put on Ground Control coilovers instead, so the MSP springs sit in the garage.

    WTB: Cheap Lowering Springs

Yes they lower the car. All lowering springs may "ride like s***", since they are almost always stiffer than stock. The trick with the MSP springs is that the rear spring perch is different on the MSP shocks versus the regular shocks, so MSP springs without MSP shocks will lower the car slightly...

    Best strut/$$$ option for MSP

The GC front springs are 7". The numbers written on the springs match the metric numbering convention for Eibach, but can be converted back to the standard equivalent: 7" x 350#.

    Engine Whistling Noise ???

My protege has developed a recent noise that sounds a lot like turbo whine, which is a bit wierd for an NA car. The noise is ONLY made under hard acceleration, over 3500rpm. It is not reproducable from a hood-up rev-the-piss-out-of-the-motor inspection. Any ideas?

    My TTD build thread

Nice work! Didn't take you long to get from CAD to cutting did it? What are you using to bend the tubes? We're debating now whether to attempt our own cage build or hire a pro. Any advice?

Cusco Camber Plates + Tokicos Installed

They won't work with stock springs. The stock perch is already three sheets of paper away from the inside of the shock tower. But that's a good excuse to buy coilovers anyway....

Leaving the fold - Spec E30

Got our chassis picked out: 1990 325i, blown motor, missing a few parts, already semi-gutted interior. Might be able to pick it up for just a few hundred, we'll see....

Leaving the fold - Spec E30

Shameless plug? Not botherin' me. Cut me a deal on Bilsteins? Already have a rough design done for the front camber plates. Hope to pick up a front shock assembly tomorrow to get the stack dimensions right.

Leaving the fold - Spec E30

Planning to go carcass hunting tomorrow. There's a guy out in central PA who specializes in rebuilding / reselling BMW's & he's got a thing for E30's. We called to see if he had a decent roller & he told us to come out & look around. It could work out well, since he uses things like seats, trim...
