I haven't had any problems with mine, you might have the rusted exhaust bolt which are a pain but other than that it is pretty straight forward.

Yes, you can't see it but the passenger side axle shaft actually goes across the TC and hooks inside the trasmission so once they remove it, they will see it is doable. I understand their concern as I had the same but it does work.

if you drain the TC (which you can't because there is no drain plug) the gears will still turn and they will get hot and eventually the TC will explode because it will seize. Your best way is to completly remove the TC, yes car will still run, i have done it as plenty other people, do a search...

There are plenty of threads on this but short answer is yes, you can leave it like that and remove the driveshaft for added safety, I personally leave the transfer case out of the car also.

Rear wheel bearings go bad on these as well, I would look for that first.

If the led doesn't always come on when you unlock then it might be the contact inside the fob.

How do you open it then when you are in the back of the truck? I would guess all of them have these, the button to unlock though is next to it and is electric.

i used to have the same problem, you need to take it apart, the shaft gets rusted, take it apart, clean it well and lub it real good but you really need to take it all apart.
