How long will the P5 community remain strong?

And at least it doesn't break down on a weekly basis (referring to the talon). (thumb)

Clutch is Slipping @ 65,000 km... WTF!!!

oh crap, I was taught that you don't need to use the clutch to pull it out of gear, is that the case with these cars or not? I probably do it half the time out of habit. No, I haven't had the cold clutch clatter issue, maybe its a aftermarket clutch. Or the previous owner got it fixed.

How long will the P5 community remain strong?

I bought my Protege5 for a daily driver, nothing more. My "speed demon" is my talon...though its only up 1 week out of the 4 per month.

    Nothing but problems........

You want a crappy car, get a Eclipse/Talon/Laser...they are nothing but problems. The 3 years I've had it: - needed new lifters - new waterpump - 4 new tires twice (alignment didn't fix uneven wear) - new front end cv axle - two new front lower lateral ball joints - new clutch - new front...

Clutch is Slipping @ 65,000 km... WTF!!!

15,000km really isn't enough for you guys to be the main factors of why the clutch went out, maybe the owner before you wasn't a very good caretaker of the car. My car is at 80,000 miles and it seems to be doing just fine. The main things (other than just using it) that would cause premature...

Givin the option..would you trade your p5 for a mazda3 hb?

Kind of surprised at some of the responses, I can't believe some of you would take a Mazda6 Wagon, those things look like the 90's Subaru Station Wagons! On top of that, carrying a Ford Motor.

From EVO to MAZDA 3 *newbie*

LOL it was a adjustment for me going from the 240HP Talon TSi AWD to a 135HP Protege5..but they both serve different purposes. Why don't you pick up a Eclipse GSX or Talon TSi AWD as a side project car, because the all likely hood of getting the mazda3 to go fast is slim to none..and it...

    Electric problem, lights dim randomly

Yeah I know flickering is normal to some extent, but the headlights were going near off and in some instances the car would bog.

    Electric problem, lights dim randomly

Cleaned the terminal, took it for a drive (30 min) and the headlights never dimmed once. So I guess I fixed it, its little problems like that that piss me off.

Givin the option..would you trade your p5 for a mazda3 hb?

I was just curious, if both cars had equal mileage, and ZERO problems would you trade straight acrossed your P5 for a Mazda3 Wagon?

    Mazdaspeed 3. Hatch or Sedan?

Well if I had a choice it'd be a 2DR HATCHBACK, but hey between the two I'd choose the wagon. Or better yet, bring back the Protege5 :P

    Rhino Low-Pro Ramps

ramps are good for automatics, but they are a PITA for manuals to gas it to give it enough power onto the ramp but not over it.

3k oil changes HURT engines not HELP!

I think 3K is ridicilous, esp. with the technology we have now, I'm sure OIL is much better than it was 50 years ago. Synthetic especially. I think you can be safe going 5K-6K per oil change without it being considered neglect, but driving 20,000 miles on the same oil isn't right.

    4WD??? riiight

Thats it, I'm getting a cobra emblem for my Protege5. I want to be cool like that DUDE!

    Electric problem, lights dim randomly

humm..then maybe that wasn't the problem after all. I haven't drove the car since I cleaned the terminal but I am pretty certain that is the cause of it, it was pretty nasty lookin. Perhaps these cars just do it

    Rhino Low-Pro Ramps

I've overshot the yellow cheapies from Walmart before, but I haven't had them shoot out from under the car just slide.

    Electric problem, lights dim randomly

Wasn't a loose connection, but it was actually a corroded battery terminal.

    Cold weather car wash

I don't think washing your car in the cold weather is going to do anymore damage than what is already done, in otherwords I don't see how warmer water is going to make the car any colder than it already is. The only annoyance is frozen key locks and doors. I think summer heat does more damage...

    Electric problem, lights dim randomly

Another mysterious issue is when I went to get on my car the other day all my radio settings were set to default and I didn't fiddle with them. Thats another reason why I'm wondering if its the battery.
