I have a magnetic heater that I can stick onto the bottom of the oil pan, which I have done a couple of times lately with these low temperatures, although in my garage it's usually over 40F.

I think many U-Haul trailers are limited to 55mph, but it's hard to say exactly why. I'm pretty sure people exceed that limit at least some of the time.

So it's 10 years old and has 254k miles, about 25k miles per year , isn't it? I would be curious as what kind of use it's had to get that mileage. It might be good or it might not be good.

Shutting off the engine while it's hot can cause gurgling. I've experienced it in my old Mazda 626. I thought there was some kind of little critter under the hood making noise but it was the coolant making noise in the heater core.

Some of those have a cig lighter plug so you can just plug into a live 12v port without lifting the hood.

Measuring amps can be difficult. Usually what they do is make a circuit to 'siphon' a small amount of current proportional to the full current (via a shunt) and measure that. Your problem is pretty weird. Any current draw will sap the battery, so the exact amount of amperage isn't huge.

This could be the problem, and even a new off-the-shelf battery can be run down from just sitting. A good battery shop will fully charge the new battery before it's installed.

Not neccessarily. A thoroughly discharged battery can be quickly boosted back up to a usuable voltage, but it won't last unless it's had a good thorough charging, which can take overnight or more. It's hard to say what is actually wrong. Did something happen to the electronics? Bad connection...

I would guess the reliability is about the same as (depending on the exact year) most of them now use the same 2.5L engine.

I have a pair of cable chains but I don't really like to think about installing them. If I only have a pair, should I put them on the front or rear?

That's probably the cat converter warmup sequence. Unless you have a small leak that seals when it heats up?

Installing chains is a big pain, isn't it?
