CX-5 Transmission: Drain and fill vs flush vs oil pan drop drain/fill?

With RTV, the pan mating surfaces must be completely oil free and clean. The RTV must be applied to make sure it covers the mating surfaces without any voids. Gaskets are much easier but the gaskets they supply in the kits are usually cheapo gaskets. On my other cars, the factory included a...

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

At 122F, the fluid is at the low mark. How much more fluid to bring it to full? I ran out of trans fluid after 5 quarts. I need to get 1 more quart at the Mazda dealer.

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

Did my trans fluid and filter on my 2017 CX5 today. Getting that pan off with the factory RTV was a pain. Had to break the seal and then pry it down. The RTV acts like a glue. Then cleaning the pan was another pain. I wish Mazda would just use a reusable gasket with a steel core and outside...

    Switched to 5W-30 from 0W-20

Is not the OEM Mazda oil made by Idemitsu? If the 5w-30 Idemitsu is on the "thin" side of 5w-30, it still has to be thicker than 0W-20 in order to qualify as 5w-30. Main thing is that it is full synthetic and Idemitsu is a well respected oil manufacturer. I am sure it is a quality oil.

    Guide ATF Drain/Fill

That is 100% normal. It's just clutch material which is normal operation. If you see larger metal fragments and burnt fluid, then I would be concerned. Otherwise what you see in the pics is 100% normal. Every transmission I have done has clutch material in the pan and magnet. What type of RTV...

Found an engine oil leak (2019 CX-5)

I bought my 2017 as the new 2018 models were coming out. When I read about the 2018's getting the new CD and how complex that was, I said NO WAY, and opted to get a 2017 model year which didn't have it. I knew back then that Mazda's CD was going to be problematic as it was new and overly complex...

Found an engine oil leak (2019 CX-5)

Most dealerships will NOT wait for the RTV to dry overnight. Dealer service departments is all about money and time. Having a vehicle sit on a lift overnight is not making money. Whatever the time payout for such a job is, I guarantee you, they don't take into account waiting for RTV to dry...

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

A machine "punches" this louvers into the metal filter housing. The oil then flows through these louvers into the filter element to be filtered. The lack of quality control shows that this punch did not fully open up the louvers and the few that did open, the slit opening was very tiny. Could...

Low Engine Oil Warning Light on new CX-5

It's kind of disheartening that CX-5's are reporting all these issues. Cracked cylinder heads, leaking oil, burning oil, valvetrain issues, etc. I own a 2017 CX-5 and it's been trouble free with 50k miles on the vehicle. It seems that starting in 2018, CX-5's began having issues with the engine...

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

If the louvers are CLOSED shut, how are they supposed to work? More than half the louvers in this filter are closed due to a faulty punching system at the factory. I've seen plenty of louvered filters and they are fully punched and open. I don't have an issue with properly punched and open...

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

The filter sits upside down in the 2017 CX-5. Oil can't really flow anywhere as gravity is holding it since it is upside down underneath the engine.

Mazda - Made in Mexico Oil Filters are Faulty

Yes, the louvered slots, most of them are not even open. The remaining ones are barely open. Unlike the Japanese and Thailand filters, which have numerous large round openings.
