I've never driven an automatic car I could tolerate. I sit in traffic almost every time I drive, and never once have I thought "this would be better in an automatic." I don't want ANY delay when I need to make a quick move for a lane change, pass, etc. Injury is the only reason I can imagine...

It's official, you can configure a 2015 Mazda 3S Touring or GT with 2.5 and manual on edmunds.com :) http://www.edmunds.com/mazda/mazda3/2015/options.html?sub=hatchback&style=200703394#step1 MazdaUSA still only allows you to configure a 2014.

The point is, an automatic Mazda3 is not a viable alternate to a Fiesta ST or MS2, both of which are/would be manual. Vehicles with automatic transmissions may as well not exist, as far as I'm concerned.

It pretty clearly says 2014 on his post ;) I did a search and did find some allusions to a late availability of a 2.5 manual. I pretty much mentally excluded the '14 3 when I saw the 2.5 was shown as automatic-only on mazdausa.com.

Is the manual 2.5 a late addition? I can't find it as an option on mazdausa.com

I actually test drove the Fiesta ST a month or so ago, and really liked the way it drove. But in 5-door form, I couldn't buy it. The B-pillar is simply too far forward, pushing the driver's left armrest uncomfortably far forward. I would have nowhere to put my left elbow. Such a simple thing...
