    2014 CX5 Tune-Up items to replace?

By far the easiest method I've found for cleaning aluminum gasket sealing surfaces is a brass brush, and/or a brass brush bit in a Dremel tool. They make quick work of cleaning the old stuff off of the timing belt cover mating surface and the cam cap seal area. I usually scrape the bulk of the...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Swapped out all rear bulbs for LED. I had already previously changed the license plate lights and turn signals. Now I did all the brake, tail and reverse lights. Now all 3 of our cars are fully LED except for the head and fog lights. photo shows the old bulbs on the left side, new ones on the...

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

Changed both air filters, engine and cabin. Last time I changed the cabin filter was 5 years ago when we first got the car. This is my first vehicle with a cabin air filter, and I just forgot about it. So I changed it yesterday after ~60K miles. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I've seen...

2013~2016 Belt Tensioner - Shouldn't this be a warranty item?

I don't think I had that much oil residue on the block before I changed the VC gasket, OCV gasket and OCV itself. I know the oil pan has looked pretty dry every time I've changed the oil, even before I changed that stuff. But I did notice oil still coming out of the OCV after changing both...

2013~2016 Belt Tensioner - Shouldn't this be a warranty item?

I could not get the rag method to work to get the stretch belt on. It was indeed a PITA and I think I struggled with it for about an hour. Laying on the floor under the brake rotor wasn't helping. Single zip tie method didn't work, either. It broke every attempt. But I think I did 2 zip...

2013~2016 Belt Tensioner - Shouldn't this be a warranty item?

well yeah, the belt goes around the tensioner. You HAVE to change the tensioner with the belt off the car.

Did not have to remove or unbolt any engine mounts, thankfully. Vehicle is noted below my avatar pic.

Just got the CX-5 Hatch/Liftgate strut recall notice

Double checked again this weekend. Rear hatch still comes close to the garage door upper seal, but just clears it, exactly as it did before the hatch struts were swapped out.

Just got the CX-5 Hatch/Liftgate strut recall notice

If the dealer was going to go to the trouble of swapping out the struts when I had not originally taken the car in for that reason, you really think they would put NOS parts on the car?

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

You don't really HAVE to wear gloves if you don't want to. Those guys who do many tens of oil changes a day, yeah it's probably a good idea. But for those of us who do it once or twice a year, it's not really a big deal. I wear gloves to protect my hands when working on a hot engine, but...

Just got the CX-5 Hatch/Liftgate strut recall notice

And I'm telling you that the ones the dealer put on are the same. When we first got the car, I was concerned that the hatch would touch our garage door opening's top seal or the door bottom seal with the hatch open. Luckily it cleared everything by about 1/2 inch or so, although I did set the...

Just got the CX-5 Hatch/Liftgate strut recall notice

Shorter? Not at all. The hatch opens the exact same amount as before. As I said, haven't had any issues with the new ones.

Just got the CX-5 Hatch/Liftgate strut recall notice

So I ended up getting ours replaced earlier this year when I took the vehicle in to get a proximity key programmed. It's the only time I have taken a vehicle to a dealer for anything, ever. They went ahead and did the recall replacement at that time. Haven't noticed any issues since then, but...

    SkyActiv Oil Analysis Thread

Went back and looked at my reports' potassium levels out of curiosity. 2 times ago it showed 2, and this last time 0! Phew! Currently at 120,000 miles on our CX-5, probably will be needing an oil change again soon.

Dang we need something like that. Our car felt stuffed on our last vacation trip to Florida with just my wife and kid, plus 2 bicycles on the hitch carrier, plus our dog's crate in the back.

What have you done to your CX-5 today?

what the heck? Automotive ECU's have been adjusting for proper air/fuel ratio ever since ECU's were a thing. My 89 Camry did it, my 94 Integra does it, my 00 Miata does it. That's ridiculous if a modern car can't adjust for proper AFR just because an aftermarket intake is added.

Bed them in properly? I've never had an issue with ceramic pads on any car.
