    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

So uh... track days are insanely fun. (Photo credit goes to Michael Shriver of Kamakiri Photo) We got I think 160min of track time for $175. Can't beat that. I only got roughly 140 because of a couple "offs" so I had to clean a bunch of grass out from under my car before going back out...

Yes, but won't happen while it's a daily driver. Wild cams and E85 would be a lot of fun.

    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

I never really thought about those, for a track car I'm not sure it'd make sense, for autocross it might be fun though... Would need to enable it at less than WOT, and maybe make an arming switch, or make it only active with traction control off, etc... But easily doable. I think I'd be...

    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

Got some great photos of the car thanks to Maureen Scully and Brian Culp! Finally got some solid pics with it under load in a turn to get a better look at the tire distorting/camber loss... I think it's about as perfect as it needs to be. The ONLY place it ever had a hint of pushing was at the...

Did an oil change and washed on Saturday... went with 10W30 Castrol Edge FST w/ Ti as I'll be doing a track event in a few weeks. Also I can get that specific oil for $2.70/qt so I won't feel bad dumping it early. Had a great event yesterday... god this thing handles well. It's been about...

    SRI Install questions

It is done via OBDII cable and laptop. I did my 09 Mazda3 when I had it too... Here's a video showing the process. It's exactly the same for the 2.

    SRI Install questions

It helps with low end IMO the most. I'm saying the tune has a REAL noticeable difference. Intakes make a small difference and increase in noise(which i like to be honest). In the us it's rated 92 (RON+MON/2)

Best increase per $ is a tune. The intake mainly helps throttle response a bit, the tune on 92+ octane is great. Dynotronics is the one to see.

Assuming originally it truly made 100hp at the crank, it entirely depends on what the drive line loss is. I dyno'd at 97whp... With 15% loss that means it's now 114 at the crank. If it's 10% loss, it's more like 108hp. It's guessing but probably somewhere in the middle is about right. I'm...

Hoping to join the Mazda2 Family!

I second everything above. Also snow tires make these little cars amazing in snow. I still have a set of ContiExtremeWinterContacts on stock steel wheels w/ sensors from when I lived in Ohio, but in VA Beach they're not really needed... Ha. If you're interested in them feel free to PM me. I...

    flatlander937's Mazda2 build - SCCA STF / NASA NXF

So I spent the last week and a half prepping my car for the Track Attack event today at Academi. Had a state inspection done last week, found out one of my pads are at 1.5mm to the backing plate(driver side outer), all others had 4.5-4.6mm left. The driver side rotor was worn just below minimum...

Had a good day running at our August event... Pulled off a 35.962 which was good enough for 8th in pax, I needed to find 0.771 seconds in raw time to get top time. I did have the highest pax of all the ST classes so I guess that's something? Still feeling burned out from having to stick around...

Question about SRI & MAF sensor

I didn't get one. Put like 3000-4000mi on it before finally getting tuned. Fwiw the tune is by far the most effective thing you can do.

Question about SRI & MAF sensor

DDMWorks filter is fine, I put several thousand miles on mine before finally tuning it. I'll be building my own cold air intake at some point, building off of their MAF housing.

Review: Carbotech AX6 front brake pads

Yeah no kidding. I'll reserve full judgement until I have a few events on them and more miles, but I miss the Carbotechs so much now.

Review: Carbotech AX6 front brake pads

Well, after 12k I decided to take them off... one of the rotors are now below minimum specification at 0.817, the other at 0.857. Minimum safe is 0.830... they start out around 0.914" thickness for reference. The driver side was worn more, primarily the outside pad. I found that my slide pins...
