I got some scratches on my bumper. How much do you think this will cost to fix? I'm a noob at detailing/body work, so I don't know if I should try and fix it myself with some touch up paint or take it to a shop, and I don't really want to have my insurance fix it...thanks for any suggestions...

Ouch! Well, some of that will come out with rubbing compound/polish, but you will need touchup paint for the rest. It won't look too bad when you are done. Definitley NOT worth having your insurance cover it. Check out www.paintscratch.com to get some factory matched touchup paint.

What rubbing compound polish do you recommend, and in what order do I do the compound, polish, etc..? I think I have touch up paint that Mazda sent me...what other supplies would I need?..thanks..

well judging by the pic... most of it will come off with just a little bit of water-- wash ur car before pics dude lol
seriously, what happened to make the scratches??

someone parked behind me in my driveway last night, and i wasn't paying attention and slowly backed into his front bumper. the pictures look worse than the scratch really is. i think it only went through the first layer of paint because they're still black underneath which is good because they're not really noticeable unless u get really close. but i'd still like to try and get them out as best as i can without going to a shop.

can someone give me a quick how to, to fix this scratch..? or at least make it look better...

thanks..

Could be worse:

Came out on day to find this. Waiting until I get my 03.5 lip before I get it fixed.

I've had similar scratches that I was able to mask but not completely remove, meaning if you look close enough you can find the scratch, but from more than 3 feet away it's not visible.

I used 3M Fine Cut Rubbing Compound and a compounding pad on my porter cable orbit polisher... at roughly 3500 rpm. This "fills the scratch", then I hit it with Meguiers #9 Swirl Remover Polish with a polishing pad. This dulls the edges of the scratch and makes them less reflective, and less visible. Finally, some good wax on top.

Check out this link for some good advice and a place to buy this stuff:

Later.

thanks for the info. i'm a noob with detailing/paint/body work. can i apply rubbing compound by hand? i dont have an orbit polisher. as far as touch up paint, i've heard this can make it look worse because its hard to make it sit flush with the rest of the paint. yes or no on the touch up paint?
