60k mile recommended vs required service? 2020 CX-5

JXS

2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring AWD
I purchased my 2020 Mazda CX-5 AWD GT in April of 2024 as a Mazda CPO. I’m coming up on the 60k mile service, and would like to understand recommended vs required service.

I contacted a local Mazda dealer, and they said the following should be done:
  • EPR Oil Change w/ Tire Rotation - $189
  • Fuel Induction Service - $189
  • Coolant Exchange - $189
  • Differentials Service - $175
  • Transmission Fluid Service - $130
  • Transfer Case Service - $175

A lot of this isn’t in the service guide, and the service rep said this is what the dealer recommends from what they see on a daily basis, and in our “midwest” conditions despite the manual.

I contacted a second dealer, and they said the following:
  • Oil Change with Tire Rotation - $110
  • Coolant Flush - $150
  • Transmission Flush - $259
No mention of EPR, fuel induction, differentials, or transfer case here.

Advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

How long do you plan to own the vehicle?

Do you currently have an extended warranty?

With CPO… correct me if I am wrong… 3 more years and 40k miles?

What is EPR?

The first dealer charges about 3X what I'd be willing to pay if I were to have somebody else do it.

I'd like to own it for a while. Hopefully 150-180K?

No extended warranty, other than CPO.

And yes, powertrain for 3-years/40k, bumper to bumper for 12 month/12,000, so around 7-months/7,000 miles left.

Engine Performance Restoration (EPR). They claim it clears out any build up within the oil system and can improve performance, fuel efficiency, and prevent issues.

Personally if I was keeping it for 6-8 years I'd do all the fluids and then not worry about them again. Might be worth seeing if you can find any promos at nearby dealers, a lot will have 10% off promos and such at times. Could also see if they'd offer any discount for getting all of the fluids done at once.

You only bought it 4 months ago. You probably don't need anything yet. Most dealers will at least do the oil change before they sell it. They probably did more work to it when they CPO'd it. They should have given you a Carfax/AutoCheck report of its history and that should show what they did to it. You can also contact the dealer you bought it from and ask the service dept what maintenance they did to it.
Wait until you've put 7500 or 5k miles it then take it for an oil change and tire rotation. That's probably all you'll need until you hit 75k. Although changing the transmission fluid might be a good idea at your mileage.
NEVER, EVER tell a shop that you want the 10k/15k/30k/45k/60k, etc maintenance. They love that because they have pre-packaged lists of services to hit you with. Look in the owners manual to see what it really needs (a CPO has to include one)

As others have suggested, doing the transm/xfercase/diff fluids every ~50-60Kmi on a vehicle you want to keep is worth considering. The so-called "lifetime fluid" doesn't exist; they're worth doing.

Regarding the coolant flush, if you check your car's owner's manual you'll find the recommendation to be 10yrs/120Kmi or so. (Is, on my 2016. I'm assuming your 2020 is that or close to that.) Unless there's clear reason to do so now, I'd probably skip the coolant until above the 100Kmi mark.

The "Fuel Induction" service they're suggesting might be worth considering. You can do it yourself, using a good-quality GDI Intake Valve Cleaner product. STP, CRC, Berryman. Can do at home, DIY for about ~$35 for the chemical plus your time.

At 60Kmi, I'd take a hard look at the belts. Specifically the serpentine/accessory belt and tensioner. Somewhere in the 60-80Kmi range, I'd get those swapped.

Oil+Filter change as needed (every 5Kmi or so). Tire rotation as needed (every 5Kmi or so). Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter, as needed, which are quick and simple to do DIY. Top-off the fluids in the engine bay if you see them low. Brakes as needed. Beyond that, there's not much these cars really need, unless something goes bad.

OP,
Your CPO warranty might require you to have some services done to keep it valid.
