Mazda 3 2012 i touring
Hi guys,

Three weeks ago I got a CPO mazda 3 2012 I touring. it has 33k now and was 12,8k. I had a lot of minor issues fixed, like trunk bolts missing, rear deflector broken, ceiling light was out, emg break boot was tearing, clips for the door rubber was also missing and it was loose. The back seat pocket was tearing at both sides. (these were all fixed at first service and negotiated at the table before purchase)
Now I noticed the mud clips/flaps are sticking out by rear wheels.
The Mazda steering wheel emblem is peeling... wth? (is that replaceable?) (some kind of vinyl covering looks original manufacturer though)
Then I noticed headlights are flickering, very noticeably at night driving. I drove it for a trip about 300 Miles and then I noticed the Temperature console was super hot like it was hard to touch the dial to turn. There is some felt paper coming out of the side of the entire audio console which seems like it was either replaced or installed recently.
The air system only blows warm air, unless I turn on A/C, outside air temp can be cold and i will still get warm air at lowest cool setting without A/C on. (is that normal?)

I made a service appointment this Friday (second one) (hate to be without a car in bay area California for more then a couple hours!)

The service receptionist said the emblem is not an easy fix, entire airbag compartment on the steering wheel has to be replaced, is that true?

Is the hot temperature console knobs normal? at touch it felt about 90 degrees-ish.

Overall I am happy with my mazda and hope that I dont have too many new issues appear. Appreciate your advice and help. Before this i drove old cars like 98' civic, so this is my first "big purchase" as a student out of college. I think I made the right choice!

Another thing is the electronic MPG estimator is strange. This is my first newer car, I never had this technology before. Its always like 99.9 or 7.8 mpg, I never read any normal numbers on it unless I'm cruising. is there a way to optimize it?

Are you sure the title is "clean"? Did you get a Carfax report? It looks like the car was repaired improperly, based upon your description of the issues before and at hand. None of those things you mention are normal for a car with such low mileage, although as with most newer vehicles that have cabin filters, by the time outside air enters the cabin, it is always warmer. Gone are the days when outside air has a clear path into the cabin (as it did in my 89 MX6 GT).
My son just picked up a 2012 3 hatch with 55,000 miles on it and everything works perfectly. He is now selling his 97 Civic CX hatch.

Yeah I looked at the carfax and was told it is clean, I just wrote a very long and detailed complaint via email to mazda USA http://www.mazda.com/en/inquiry/ I hope it will be taken seriously. I asked for a re-certification process and all issues to be fixed and reported their rude salesman who told me he was doing me a favor by fixing the first issues that I FOUND instead of being told that they exist. Now Im super mad -___-

carfax is not a very great indicator of whether or not car is good to buy. i bought an 06 sentra with a clean title and great carfax and after the fact i went uner to do its first oil change after i bought it and noticed the front bumper behind the plastic was all f'ed up and bent like the car had hit a fire hydrant or pole, it was only noticeable from under the car when looking under the hood from top it looked fine. the car was a great car though and it ran fine, the only thing that was messed up was the metal part of the front bumper. carfax only works if the person is honest and/or the shop they take it to is as well, if the car is fixed without insurance being involved there will be no carfax reports at most repair shops. to me it seems like you got one that the previous owner did not care for well and did a good job at covering it up when trading it in. did you get a warranty? if so nitpick every little thing wrong and get it fixed under warranty.

car dealers are not the most honest places and will rip you off in a heartbeat if you get a granted re certification see if you can have it done at another mazda dealer. i had a similar experience with one of the mazda dealers in the fort worth area (where i live) i have an 08 3 and the sunroof just stopped moving half way open about a month after i bought it (used earlier this year) its a long story and about 6 screws were involved in the fix. my liner was loose on the front of the sunroof and was missing 2 screws so i put 2 in and the rattle stopped but 2 weeks later it stopped working all together and after no luck i went to autonation mazda in fort worth and they made me sit for 7 hours in their waiting room with me asking about my car (i was first there in the morning and last to leave) they got the service advisor assistant manager whom told me i needed a new sunroof assembly to fix the issue. $1200 in parts and $1200 in labor!!!! so i said f off and left. 2 days later i fixed it by noticing the sunroof motor was moving around while trying to function and the gear was not moving the actuator chain. so i used my fist to hold it in place and it worked while doing that. so i found the 3 screw holes and put new screws in with threadlocker and bam it was fixed for $1! so i went back to the dealer the next day and demanded my $100 "diagnostic" fee back. as i realized the dealer had not even looked at my car! they just wanted $2400! the service manager was apologetic but i said i will never be returning here to buy anything again! as they also said i could not buy just the sunroof motor it came as an assembly. Hiley mazda in hurst texas (about 15 miles further away from my house) gave me a diagram of the sunroof, prices for the parts and said the motor could be purchased separately. i also noticed their prices for parts were considerably cheaper than autonations were. so i go there for stuff i can only get from mazda now.

so now after that long story, get another mazda dealer to do everything. some dealers are just corrupt and some are not, it seems to be the bigger the network of dealers are the more corrupt they are as autonation has dealers all over the place but hiley is only in dfw and only has like 5 dealers.

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Man my dealer is and SOB, mazda north america customer service connects me to the Capitol Mazda manager ..Thomas something and that dude would not let me finish a sentence and at one point said to me "but you bought a used car..." .
Dude I just got re routed to you only to be undermined? Its a CPO 2012, it should not have the above issues!!

Im such a nice person I just hate it when people say things that make it seem like im naive and dont know how to haggle and negotiate. Like if this is a who can yell louder game, bet ur a$$ im gona win. LOL. Just dropped 14.5k, I aint gona let them win.

Im ready to go to a new dealer Ive only dealt with these guys for 3-4 weeks now and I want to report all of them. the salesman told me " I pulled strings to get these repairs done for you" .

WTF is bumper to bumper warranty for?! Screenshot_2015-11-16-14-36-53.webp

On another note, I am worried about non reported accidents now, the rear deflector was completely broken and its not a part you can even easily reach. the mazda speed forum said I should take to another dealer nearby that they had better experiences with. Im ready to get it re-certified even if i have to do it privately. but ill fight to get mazda to do it!

yeah, have another mazda dealer do a re certification and have them give you a report with any ill findings then go to mazda with it, if they dont help you with that already as one mazda dealer will usually go above and beyond for you to keep you as a customer when the other has wronged you especially that bad.
