That sucks. I'm grateful that Crippen Auto Mall in Lansing, MI has been great to me both in sales and service through three cars: my 2005 Mazda3, my 2009 RX-8 (that I still have), and my new 2014 Mazda3.

I feel your pain rvoll

I lost about $700 from what I greed to pay on the phone.
This was my first new car and was looking forward to it, and i love the car but the buying experience was a nightmare.

I think my next car will be based on anyone willing to give me full details of the sale by email.

When my wife got her 2010 Subaru Forester the sale went through without a hiccup.

I should have used some of my frequent flyer miles, and visited Crippen Auto Mall in Lansing, MI.

I get one free oil at the dealership, I think i might get a friend to print me a shirt that says "I got ripped off buying a Mazda" and walk around while I'm waiting.

I've purchased dozens of cars over the years, and this was the worst experience for me as well. In fact, it was so bad that my wife said she never wants to get another Mazda even if it is the best car in the world. The first dealer I went to (the largest in the U.S.) agreed with the TrueCar price and then added on another $700 in extras (doc and etch fees) and said that was not negotiable. Other dealers in NJ had similar fees (who said cartels don't exist in the U.S.?) They couldn't get the color I want and said they would have to order it. I checked the web site, and the Reflex Blue was not available anywhere, so I gave them my $1000 for the order. Well, the Reflex Blue was available elsewhere (they lied), and since I just got in an accident, I needed the car right away. So I said that if they couldn't get the swap, just give me back my deposit and I would buy it elsewhere. They would not give me the deposit back, but said that I could use it as "store credit". Since I was going to get a number of accessories anyway, the the new dealer in CT convinced me to switch with a $500 discount from the original amount, I said OK and put down a deposit. Well, it turned out to be a bait and switch even though they gave me a VIN. They had no problem returning my deposit immediately and I found another one in MD. I negotiated a deal at almost $500 less than the CT deal. They said the car was at the port so I gave it two weeks to get to the dealer. I called the dealer the day before I was supposed to pick it up, and they said no problem. Well, I got there and there was no car. At this juncture, even though we ended up paying $1000 less than the original deal, my wife was ripped (and I don't blame her!!!) They finally got the car 2 hours later and it took an hour to prep and we were on the road. For our "trouble", they gave us an iPad mini.

I really like the car and made the right decision to buy it, but it was not fun. I then complained to Mazda USA about the first dealer and sent "angry" messages to the owners of the first dealer. I contacted them to get some accessories, and when they didn't process the "store credit", I hit the roof and was ready to picket in front of the dealer. The owner finally said just to give this "pain in the a__" his money back, so I got a $1000 credit.

Can anyone of you beat that??????

(And I still love the car.....)

Ford tried to have me arrested for trespassing when I went to check on my car that they had had for about 90 days at that point. I never raised my voice, said anything rude, or approached anyone.

Wow, my experience was completely the opposite. Got exactly the deal I wanted and was agreed to over email, writing up the sales contract went fast and the finance person wasn't pushy at all when it came to trying to add on warranty, service, etc. Same with the other 6 Mazda's I've purchased. Always a pleasant experience.

In NJ I believe it's the law that they have to refund your deposit unless you take delivery of the car.

Update.

Dealer's get a bonus based on customer satisfaction survey.

The dealer gave me a follow up phone call and I said it was the worst sales experience in my life. They told me they fired my salesman for his bad reviews. "I could care less" what is now most important now is if they would try to make things better now. They offered me a free oil change to get a better survey. Not worth it!! I counter offered with half of what they ripped me for. No return calls, so all my emails and my audio recordings are going to Mazda now.

More pissed with the lies than the $$ in the end I still got a good price. Bad timing, i was going to have to get a rental car for 2 weeks if i waited longer and cars in my area are going for almost full retail.

I believe in the power of voice and will spread bad news of them forever now.

I will never buy from Oxmoore Mazda again.

Dealerships vary from one to another.
Even at the same dealership, salesperson varies a lot in their attitude.

I would have walked away immediately the moment they refuse to honor the deal negotiated over phone/emails.
With the past four vehicles I bought, this has not happened to me. Most dealerships nowadays are smarter than that.

I know I should have walked. But it was a timing issue, and they were the only one with all my options, and it was a deal, just not what we agreed on. On top of that I found the extra cost in the paperwork and went off I was looking for the dirt and found it. I want people to be aware that this happens all the time. And these dealers should not be trusted.

I used USAA buying service and they are pursuing them for violations also. The price was lower than the USAA price but they did something else and USAA had me copy and send them all my documents for review. My loan is from USAA and there are compliance issues going on. Not explained but they will get back with me.

I get to vent here and warn others..

That's unfortunate about the dealer situation. I feel spoiled the way my dealer treated me... not pushy, great price, and even delivered to our home!

I went into the dealership in October and ordered a sGT w/ Tech package in soul red. It's been 3 mos and still no car. Are these 3's that difficult to obtain? Dealer told me that not many sGT's are built yet w/ tech package as an option.
Thanks all.

thanks rvoll...unfortunately i'm looking for one with a black interior but yup that is the car!
sheesh it almost feels like i'm getting a custom built car waiting this long...

Almost all of the Soul Red S GT's here in SoCal are with the almond interior. I don't think I've seen any with black.

As much as I like the almond. I chose black because I think it would be easier to maintain in the long run.
I imagine in Cali people prefer the lighter interior to keep it cooler temp?

I love the almond leather interior, but I started seeing stains on the driver's side seat almost immediately. In the spring I'll be busting out the leather cleaner and conditioner. I hope it works well. I've only had black leather in my cars in the past.

Same here.

I am in Houston so I think that white will help reduce the summer heat but I got the felling it's going to be a nightmare to maintain.

My Speed6 had black leather. Sold it after 6 years and leather was in mint condition.

I may create a new thread about it :-)

I used some Mother's leather wipes a couple weeks ago when the temperature broke freezing for a short time. They did a pretty good job for a quick cleaning of stains on the almond leather.

I got one.5 door Grand Touring sport. Soul red with black leather. Right when it came into port in SoCal. With tech package, aero package, remote start and LED light package.
