2012 Mazda5 Touring
Till I pick up the new 2012 Copper Red Touring 5. I am excited(headbang). Never have I owned a "utility car," only sports cars. Not sure why I am SO excited, but I just am!!!

50 posts and you don't even own one yet? I have a feeling you're going to be on here more than me! Welcome to the world of rational. Haha. ;)

BOught it last Sunday. Before that rented one for a week to make sure. Taking delivery tonight :D

Ok here are few pics Will post better ones this weekend, after claybar, polish/wax, debadge.

Few thoughts:

1) I forgot the Touring had the trip computer. I thought it was GT only. Comes in handy. Similar to my MINI that it provides instant MPG, average MPG, and range, and a few other things.

2) The "hello" "goodbye" prompt on the center console is beyond silly. Wish Mazda would do away with that.

3) Can't believe they Mazda removed the LED tails from the 2012 model. I mean Mazda isn't the pioneer at anything, but they provide LED on RX8 and not on the new NC2, ok fine, different models. But the PREVIOUS Gen 5 had LED, and new ones don't. Sound like its going backwards

4) Wish the car had auto door lock function as you drove off. NOt sure if it is programmable (will have to check the books), and if so that would be nice.

I guess you were so excited, you forgot the pics?

BTW, I hope your car was built more than about a month ago as it's not good to wax the paint before it has fully cured, even if it were baked.

congrats! I too would not claybar or wax it. There really isn't a need for it just yet.

Hey, at least they now come stock with a short antenna, though I think now it looks kinda funny not centered anymore.

Congrats. I would wait until the autumn at least to polish/seal/wax. Just gently hand wash it for the time being, you'll be fine.

I too find it odd there is no auto-lock on the 5 when the 2nd gen 3 has it.

Huh? I attached the pics

Yeah lots of stuff 2nd gen 3 has, 5 doesnt have.

Congrats! Is that your white Miata in the pic?

Nice to know the trip computer is standard in the Touring; I didn't see it listed in the features section of the 2012 brochure. At least BT, spoiler, and fog lamps came standard with the Touring. And I'm confused about the anti-theft system; the brochure says engine immobilizer antitheft for Sport and Touring but the GT is listed with a antitheft ALARM system.

Maybe they'll bring back an LED option for succeeding years but for now I think it was a cost cutting measure just like the electroluminescent gauges.

Yeah it is my 95 R that I picked up in NV that I was telling you about. It joins the 91, 2004 Mazdaspeed, and 09 NC2 PRHT in the garage.

It is listed on the website-the computer.

The GT has the alarm, which the Touring doesn't. I could care less, no one is stealing a van around here.

I've never been a fan of electroluminescent gauges, but I'm unsure about the red either. I like my 07's green. Old school but easy on the eyes.

You can add an alarm system, and as a bonus will automatically lock your doors when you turn on the ignition. Just be careful not to be stupid like me where this feature caused me to lock my keys inside a running car once. Took me 15 minutes but I was able to use a coat hanger to turn off the car and unlock the doors. lol.

Why on Earth would you polish a brand new paint job? You'd have to be the best polisher on the planet to have it come out looking even equal to what it did. Makes no sense at all.

Claybar. Why would you run a claybar on brand new paint? That makes no sense either.

Wax. Use a polymer-based wax like NXT or something and it is probably OK. Use carnuba with distillates in it and you're possibly screwing the paint up.

Just wash it with microfiber towels for the first month and then wax it. You could use NXT soap if you're really Jonesin' for something to put on the paint, even though it's probably doing more bad than good.
