Oh same here! Please tell us what you used. I'd like to use the factory rack to carry my bike if possible. I don't really want to use those Yakima Q tower deals...

Info on my racks...(bike)

Ok guys, I'll save you the hell I had to go through:

1. You need to get the Thule 899xt Big Mouth RACK PACK
-if you don't have a oversize frame on bike you don't need
the xt version
(this will give you the first rack for a bike plus the thule square rack thingy that you must attach to the front bar on our bike rack)
2. Get a Thule 599xt Big Mouth Upright...this is the same as the 899xt rack pack but without the thule square rack...for the second bike if you need one.

Mounting is a little annoying, because the supplied screws are a little short, but with persistance and strength you'll get it on.
Plus they have the built in locks to make sure no one steals your bikes.

Hope this helps

I'd definitely recommend the Thule rack system. This was the first thing that I added to my car when I picked it up. I used to work at Eastern Mountain Sports and I did tons of research regarding the options. Like Honza stated the bolts are a bit too short but with the help of another person and some squeezing they will thread. If you do a search on bike racks you'll probably ping a thread that I wrote out in detail regarding the options available. If you don't want the entire bike on the roof you can get the Velo Vise pack which removed the front wheel and locks with the fork mounts. That is the option that I went with but either Rack Pack obviously works. It's all about personal pref. Personally I think our cars look pretty bad ass with bikes on the roof. I'd love to see the P5 used as a support car for road bike races but I think since it's on the smaller side it probably never will. By the way Honza your ride looks nice.

I agree with PR5hokie...

It's is all about the personnal preference. Also, since I have been using the upright (not forkmount), in some instances the fork mount will have its advantage. It seems that the upright system in not as sturdy...bikes to sway quite a bit...scary but they would never let go of the bike under any circumstance.
Pretty much the only reason why I got the upright and not the forkmount system is because I don't want to prepare my bike on the base of the trail...not a problem though if you have a quick-release on the front fork.

A question for PR5hokie: do you keep the system on all the time, or just the base thule mount without the racks?
And I absolutely agree, the car looks so AWESOME and rugged with the bikes...almost like the Xterra ad. I swear, I love this car...from hauling cement...to moving...to carring large planks of wood...hauling friends...and especially on the mountain road.:D

To answer TheHonzaP5:

I normally have my ENTIRE (Thule and factory) rack off of my car unless I know I'm going to be transporting my bike. Since I don't have to transport my bike as much in FL (since there are no freakin' mountains) I decided to just remove it to reduce the noise. When I remove the rack I unlock the front of the Thule rack and pivot on the rear. Then I disconnect the front factory rack and the rear factory rack. When I am finished I have two pieces. 1) front factory rack with thule bar connected and 2) rear factory rack with clamp and velo vise connected. Then I just pivot the velo vise to make it one long piece. I found that this was easier than disconnecting everything since the clamps are kind of a pain to hook to the factory rack. Hopefully you can visualize what I said. Sorry so confusing.

It's fine, I understand quite well. That seems like a logical solution, the only reason I was asking is the wind noise which gets very substantial at highway speeds with both the racks on (factory plus thule). But since I am lazy, I try and play deaf :D .

Thanks
