How to build a retaining wall.

Ayite! I think 12 hours straight, minus a lunch break, is enough for today! My neighbor helped out for a couple hours in the afternoon and my other brother-in-law helped for 1-2 hours late this morning. We got 5 courses laid, all backfilled, with drain tile sloped from center both ways between courses 1 and 2. Still have to put on 1-2 more courses with limited backfill now, and then finish the tapered sides of the wall on each end.

I'm ******' wrecked, and still have to do more s*** tomorrow. (notcool)(help)

Today my brother-in-law and I started at about 12:30 pm, since I was so tired from yesterday. We filled the back of that 5th course I ended with yesterday, laid the 6th course and backfilled with stone, then laid the 7th course and backfilled with dirt that had been pulled earlier. Also, almost finished the left wing of the wall. I'll post pics early tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be the right wing.

Alright, pics I took today of work done yesterday. Back part is completely done and backfilled at 7 courses. Left side is almost done. i have a few more courses and backfill to do in a couple places. I have a good close-up of how the inside corner ties into the back part, as well as a side shot of the straightness of the base.

Looks great man! Where did you end up connecting the draintile to?

Left side to an existing pipe we exposed behind the left wing, right side to the front of the right wing. I will make a little "rock pond" which it will drain to. Finished it today. It looks great. I have a lot of materials left, but only 22 block, which I can return. I have a shitload of dirt, small amount of paver base left, and about a half yard of wash stone left. We also got 4 yards of mulch delivered today.

Meh, you guys all did a s*** ton of work, and for the most part, it was the really crappy work, LOL! I couldn't say how much I appreciated it..........so hence the gift cards. Again, no way this would've been completed this week without all the help. We finished all the mulch and clean-up work today.

I'll take some pics tomorrow after work of the completion. Also have to call Greenfield DPW and see if they pick-up excess dirt and possibly even the timbers. If not, I guess it's Craig's List, or a dumpster.

Oh, and BTW Santos, we trimmed that Lilac and some of the other bushes, LOL!

How much dirt you got?

Also, Santos, any idea who might take away old lava rock and landscaping stone? I want to redo my whole landscaping but have all this rock that I don't want to reuse.

About a yard and a half. Maybe trade rock/lava stone for dirt? Take some pics of it dude.

Alright dudes! Final pics! Here are materials left over, including yard waste from pruning.

Pics from ground level. You'll notice the 7th coursed is completely buried, which will help with stability, and the 6th course is half buried under mulch. We also moved some of those lower tiered back bushes to the left side to even it out.

What a day at work. ugh. anyways, E, I asked you not to pay me man. B) I don't like that you cut corners with the drainage pipe. First it looks tacky, you are going to get animals in there and you should have really tiled it to the existing pipe. If you needed help with that I could have helped you again this upcoming weekend. Other than that, it looks great and very nice job on the landscape man.
