Opels replacement for the Vectra sedan is still close to a year away but already we have some important clues about the new car including details about a new flagship version. Thats right. Opel will launch a new high-performance version complete with a twin-turbocharged AWD powertrain.

The new model will be available in sedan, hatch and estate bodystyles and there are rumors a new coupe version based on the GTC concept (pictured) will eventually be launched as a successor to the Calibra. The cars will also be sold in the U.S. as the next-generation Saturn Aura, although final styling is expected to be changed slightly to suit American tastes.
Mechanicals are based on GMs FWD Epsilon 2 platform so expect more space and a stiffer chassis than the compared to the current model. New to the lineup will be an electronic controlled AWD set-up and limited-slip differential. Power will come from a 300hp twin-turbocharged 2.8L V6 petrol engine mated to a six-speed manual.

The performance flagship will likely be called the VXR, reports AutoExpress, and it will have a unique sports bodykit, V-shaped grille and blacked out xenon headlights. It will ride on 19in alloys and a lowered suspension kit as well.

Wow...Just took this sentence to hook my interest:

Seems like turbos are "in" again these days...:D

So we're looking at a possible Saturn Aura Redline? The one above is a little over the top, but a production version could be pretty hot. This would probably hit the same market as the Mazdaspeed6 though, which likely means fail, based on the sales of that car.

Yes it will be the Aura Redline. The car in the pic is the Opel GTC concept of a sports coupe which also on the development table as well.

Vectras are much nicer than the Auras here, so I hope the American taste final styling for the new model doesn't go too far. My brother just sold his 2003 Vectra (South of the Border) but I managed to ride in it beforehand, very European and really sweet for a 5yr old car (I attached some of the pics used for the sale ad so to give you a hint).

For me, I need space, but I'm not into big sedans/coupes. Saturn Redline folks, just bring your version of the Opel Zafira OPC or the Vauxhall Zafira VXR, and I'll consider trading my Mazda5 :D
