Bucket non-reclining racing seats w/ stock seat belts...

Yah so my next step in my mods are the seats. I like the feel of non-reclining racing seats because of the bolsters, but it doesn't seem to be possible to use the stock seatbelts.

Does anyone have non-reclining racing seats and manages to use the stock seatbelt mechanism? I don't really want to use a harness since harness bars get in the way of rear passengers....(That I unfortunately carry once in a while..LOL)

Thanks

There is a Schroth 4 point harness that you can use. The rear anchors to two rear seatbelt points. If you're not using it you can simply stow it away.

Thanks...it would look like a good idea with the buckets...but during the times when I do have rear passengers and I have to use the stock seatbelts would the stock seatbelt work properly in a non-reclining seat?

I notice you use those on the stock seats so the regular seat belt would still work properly, I am wondering if the bolsters on a bucket non-reclining race seat would make the regular seat belts useless by getting in the way of the locking mechanism on the side.

thanks

What are you needing the seats for? I was thinking I needed some new seats when autoXing, but found a better solution.

CG locks http://www.cg-lock.com/

They work with our factory seat belts and they wil not affect anything in the event of a crash. They do an excellent job on keeping you planted in your seat! My wife knows when it's about to go down when I pull on the shoulder belt to tighten the lap belt. Also at $42.95 it's a awesome deal. Heck, I even showed my co-worker with MSP the locks and he wants a set.

I do not work for the company, but was introduced to these awesome products at an AutoX event a few months back.

Why couldn't you use the factory belts? As long as you buy brackets to fit the seats in the car you shouldn't have a problem. They are made to mount the factory belts.

Thanks for the replies....

To answer the question what I will be using them for, next year's autox and track events.

The issue I was coming across was that I really like the hold of the side bolsters of a non-reclining bucket but those same bolsters cover the locking mechanism of the stock seat belts. So what happens is that if I use the stock belt, the belts actually wraps around the bolsters, creating loose fit when they should wrap around you body. I didn't want to use harnesses because to effectively use a harness, they need to either be anchored on a harness bar or the rear seat as suggested above. This becomes an issue when I am not on the track.

Actually DE31's suggestion looks to be my solution...thanks by the way...where did you get those?

I just googled those belts....looks good...here's the link of its instructions and installation if anyone's interested.

Now, my only problem is on the days where I won't be using these (due to rear passengers) I don't think I can use the stock belts on a non-reclining bucket. I've been looking at different setups and it looks as though the buckle being on the side of the bolster will cause the belt to wrap around the seat rather than my body:

if only the buckle can be installed like the interior of a Porsche GT2 (inside the bolster hole) see attached pic:

What would stop you from modifying the stock seat belt buckle to going through the hole or mount it to the seat like the porsche?

As thewrench said they are indeed streetable. You can simply detach the rear anchor straps and the rear seats are fully usable.

As for the front lap belt portion, I don't find they get in the way. In fact I use it for street driving b/c it holds me more firmly in. Otherwise you wedge them in the sides of the seat.

The shoulder portion of the harness I stow behind and under the driver's seat.

You really cannot use the FULL harness on the street b/c you won't be able to turn your upper body to see what's approaching and that's a problem I face on the track trying to see if another vehicle is approaching as I'm entering the track.

I'm using the stock seats b/c I'm not that big and they hold me in well.

Good luck with your choice!

Hey I had a set of racing seats in my old P5. I tryed to use the stock seat belts in it but because of the bolsters I really couldn't as it was pretty hard to use them.
