Different size tires with stock wheels?

I'm thinking of going for 225/45/18 or 225/40/18 tires on the stock wheels.

There are definitely more options in these tire sizes than our stock 215/45/18 size.

Seems like the extra 10mm width won't be a problem on our stock wheels and the overall diameter of these 2 tire sizes is pretty close to the stock tire.

I've attached a comparison.

What do you guys think?

Here's the math:

STOCK
215mm x .45 x 2 (sidewalls) / 25.4 (mm-inch conversion) + 18" = 25.62" tall

OPTIONS
225mm x .40 x 2 / 25.4 + 18" = 25.09"

225mm x .45 x 2 / 25.4 + 18" = 25.97"

For all intents and purposes, I'd go either way, but if you want your car to retain value longer (by showing less miles then you actually cover), go with the 225/45-18's.

Is there a part that you can change out that will correct the speedo measurements if you increase or decrease the overal size?

There are devices known as "Speedo Healers", but they are more commonly used with motorcycles. I'm unaware of an aftermarket version available for our car. Typically, it is a variable you can change on the ECU (like reflash)

Well for Mustangs there are a couple handheld ecu programmers (Diablosport Predator, SCT Xcalibrator) available where 1 of the many features is to correct the speedo/odometer when you change rim/tire sizes. Not sure if there is a similar product available for Mazdas.

Miche's pilot sports. I can barely here the road noise compared to the stock tires. And they grip sweet in the rain. I am very happy with my choice even though they were kind of expensive.
