not sure if this has already been posted before(tried searching, bad searcher xD)

i have a 2003 p5

im planning to install subs and for the people who have subs can you post pics of you installation?

I have two ideas of where to put it...i was thinking of either taking out the spare tire and if it fits put one 12" there or.....

in the trunk...behind the taillights there is two spaces...i was thinking of making a fiberglass box from the (how to) and put one 10" sub on each side

advice n stuff?

Chuyler can help you out with this, he is the audio mod and knows his stuff! His setup isalso awesome and pretty much how I want to set mine up. Welcome to the site too!

jason, truck boxes (what youre talking about making) will not sound as good as a regular dual 10" box. smaller boxes mean less air, and less air means less bass.
i have 12s in the back of mine in a solid wooden box and it hits REAL hard.
i have added a capacitor to my system since that pic was taken.

Hehe, I was kinda curious about that, too. Mine is in need of replacement.

Holy crap, when you open the hatch can those subs push enough air to push the car? Damn, it's the first gas/sonic hybrid!

Ya, they're fucken LOUD to say the least... I don't know quite how to put it... They move A LOT of air, despite it being a sealed box.

As for the mat, yep. It's from the dealer. The stock floor sucks. That felt "carpet" or whatever is is a **** to clean, so the mat is much nicer. The Mazda logo is a nice touch too. I think it was like $35 or something for the mat.

No, less air does not mean less bass. If you really want a good system then you will tailor it to the car and to the speakers. Every speaker has it's own specific needs, and they usually come with a spec sheet that will tell you what the ideal air volume of the enclosure should be. There is no generic solution. If you have a 10" woofer and you put it in an enclosure as big as a football field it will sound like s*** because it can't push all the air in the enclosure around. It all depends on what sound you want. Enclosed, bandpass, ported...

youre right. but too small of a box and it could still sound like s***. but i understand what youre saying. im not VERY knowledgeable about speakers and boxes, but i just thought id throw out there what ive experience with subs and boxes.

yea ive heard S12L5s and it was just too much, but it was also in a much smaller car. but i like that mat a lot, i might have to pick one up myself.

My box is exactly that. You get the interior volume of the car, then it gives you specs for either a sealed or ported box. I like much tighter bass, so I went with a sealed setup. There's actually quite a bit of math involved. Each sub needs a certain cubic feet of air space for a sealed box, but that changes if you're not giving each sub it's own space (if they're sharing it like in my box) and all that s***. I ended up with an air tight setup by the time I was done with the silicone.

If a box is just kinda cobbled together, not taking care for any measurements, the nicest subs in the world can sound like s***.

Yeah, it's clean, but where the hell do you put anything?? That's the only thing I don't like about having my sub in my P5. It eats up a lot of "trunk" space.
