short shifter for MS6?

my buddy has a red MS6, and he just cut his shifter really low, and it looks SICK!

i was wondering, are there any aftermarket short shifters for the MS6? if not what problems will i run into by cutting it>? and my guy at my shop said, teh stock shifter cant go on it because its a twist on, any sugestions on nice knobs to replace?

i figured, id change the bushings, and cut... only problem is i need to change the knob,,,?

if you cut it, you wouldn't have the threads for the knobs, unless you cut and then weld it back on lower. i think its just to much work. when you can buy a real shifter and have it lower, plus reduce the throw.

ya but first i gotta wait till the 28th for it+ its like $200 CAD for me.... would the stock shifter fit on the twm shifter?

and another thing, if i cut it i can make it as short as i want...

Why even bother with it if it's a lease??? That's a lot of money for a usless part after you give the car back....unless you plan on buying a used MS6 after you turn in you lease?

my gripe with the only aftermarket shifter out there is it still retains the horizontal piece...other than cup holder clearance i see no earthly reason for it...to answer the OPs question cut out the horizontal section and then weld the thread part back on... you'll notice a slightly better response due to the fact that the horizontal piece introduces 2 lines of force into the shift equation, instead of direct single planed force from a vertical shifter..

It's not bad but I kinda like the stock knob. I went to Autozone and looked at all the knob's they have there and I could not find one that I liked, though I will admit that's not saying much for their selection. I think the stock knob is heavy enough to work well with a short shifter.

i love the stock knob!, but if i cut my shifter, then i lose the the thread to screw my shifter back on, unless i solder the thread piece back on which would prob look like crap...

Just cutting the shaft is not the best idea. It is really only for the "look" but it will make shifting slightly harder due to decreased leverage. The Twm shortens the shaft and elongates the linkage underneith. The linkage on the bottom is the big deal. By being longer it can move the cable as far as it need to go with less movement on the shaft.

Just got finished installing and testing my TWM shifter. It is a definite improvement in all ways. There were a couple of hiccups I had during the install but nothing major. I can write up some helpful hints if anyone else is getting one.

yes the twm short shifter is very nice. To make the install easier take the 4 nuts out that hold the plate down and d/c it and you wont have to take the center console out in order to get the drill in there......
