New guy needs exhaust parts

Hi everyone, first time poster but long time reader. I hit a bump yesterday in my '02 P5 and the exhaust opened up (and bent a wheel, but that's another story). I put it up on a lift today and discovered that the cast iron J-pipe or pre-cat (hope I'm talking about the right thing: it's the part between the exhaust manifold and the mid pipe.) has broken ears at the spring bolts. No chance of repair. (pissed)

Does anyone have one of these for sale? Is there a stainless replacement tube that's cheap? The car isn't modified except for 17" wheels & tires, so I'm not sure it's worth putting on a header, especially since the rest of the exhaust is stock and I like it that way. I'm also not in a position to spend a ton of cash on this repair--we just bought a house with two others for sale (see my business, below), and things are kind of tight with 3 mortgages!(shocked)

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

can you identify which part it is from this diagram? (see attachment)

Not to thread-jack, but I need a new #8 pipe. I broke the bolt that connects it to the bracket. Now my exhaust buzzes against the oilpan.

Sounds like the pipe you described. Anyone know where to get a #8?

best option would be a wrecker - that piece new is over $230 USD. or, get a header.

Try the classifieds in this forum. I sold mine the same week I install my header.

The scrap yard should have it as well. They might have difficulty digging up the part by discription. Do a search on car-parts.com for an engine or exhaust manifold then call.

Yep, #8 is the one I need, too. The flange at the spring bolts broke. The entire mid pipe is disconnected. I'm running open exhaust at the moment, and it sounds like ass.

So... anyone upgrade to a header have one they're not using?

By the way, what's it called so we know we're talking about the same part?

'Officially' it's called "Front Exhaust Pipe Assembly" according to my parts sheet. its Mazda's part number FSE6-40-500B for the 2.0 liter engine.

Where are you from ? I have my stocker from when I put on the header. Only thing is, I couldn't get it apart from the Pre-cat. So, it's still together. Probably be a mint to ship it (it's heavy).

$230??!!!!

Maybe I'll look into drilling & tapping that broken screw...

WHen I took it in to Midas thinking that it was just a broken pipe at the cat, they told me the part was $325 plus a $25 gasket. That's why I'm looking used. Heck, for that cash, I could put on a header and be done with it.

Yaggie, I'd be interested if you could ship. Does it weigh more than 50 lbs? UPS will ship up to 50 lbs. for relatively little money, which, of course, I'd pay. If you can do this, let me know and I'll arrange to send UPS to your place to pick it up if you can box it.

Thanks for the help, guys. I miss my little silver car.

$325?!?!? It's got to be the smallest part of the entire exhaust sustem! You sure you aren;t being quoted on the entire manifold & pre-cat?

the problem with that piece is it is cast iron, not fabricated. if it was fabricated, it would be a lot less expensive.

just put an obx header on for $200
even if the rest of your exhaust is stock, it'll still give you more power.
you'll need to do the sparkplug non-fouler trick on the 2nd O2 sensor though

Hey, guys. I seem to have found one via this board that is local to me. I appreciate all the help you've offered. You guys rock.(first)

Thanks!
