Coolant line install for the Garrett GT Turbos

:
Red Pro 5
Can anyone show me a pict of where they tapped in the coolant lines from the turbo (GT30 or T28 ball bearing) to the coolant lines....

LinuxRacr, of those 2 pics you have that show where you tapped into, which one of those lines is the "coolant in" and which one is the "return line" from the turbo? That info would be more than helpful. I'm getting ready to turbo my MP3 and any help you have would be great.

Well, the rubber line coming out of the neck that goes to the radiator in the two pictures in post 104 connect to brass barbs on the end of the thick steel-braided teflon lines....THOSE are the waterlines. One for each side of the turbo.

Ok, but one of them has to be coolant going to the turbo and coolant going from the turbo, right? If that seems like a stupid question, then it probably is because I don't know.

I used the same thing as linux, however, I just used rubber hose the whole way. I'd like to do the lines the way you did, linux, but I couldn't find those parts anywhere. Where did you get yours?

You have it right. It doesn't matter which one goes on which side.

Here's my version. I used 6AN to 1/4NPT for the banjo/turbo end and 6AN to 3/8 barb for the transition to rubber hose.

mspeedp5, very nice!! I see you used the other banjo fittings they offer. Are those high-temp teflon lines you are using? On a side note, I wish I would have had time to go to Vancouver Island while I was in B.C. this summer.

I went with those because the shop here didn't have the proper crimping machine for the barb fittings. And yes, it's the teflon hose.
You came all the way up to BC and didn't visit the rock? Shame... :)

couple quick questions

How long did you make those? 12" good?

Also, did you end up by-passing the TB coolant loop or did you keep that intact?

Thanks!

I went 18" each on the braided line. 12" should be fine though. I haven't actually installed it yet, but I'm thinking about bypassing the TB loop altogether when I do.

Unless you plan to drive in the winter/freezing cold there is no reason to keep it intact.

It is designed to prevent the TB from freezing open during prolonged constant driving (HWY) in the winter.

Imangine taking your foot off the gas and having it stuck open.. :(

(boom05) Currently 2F, so yea, that sounds like a worthwhile thing to keep around.

Thanks guys.

yikes I never thought of it in that context.. I always imagined it was to prevent the TB from freezing shut. Luckily I think the turbo will keep the intake charge warm enough that it won't be an issue :)

This is the second winter that I've had the throttle body coolant passages bypassed, no problems so far *knock on wood*
