Zoom-Zoom

Went to the Mazda Zoom-Zoom party this last weekend in Dallas. What a thrill!!!. I was sixth fastest in the Mazdaspeed Mazda6, had a blast hustling the Miata around their course (I was asked to slow it down(first) ) and was able to compare all the vehicles.

Best Driver: Miata - Lot's of fun, handles well, lots of low end torque.
Best Handling: Mazdaspeed Mazda6 hands down.
Best Family Car: Mazda5
Worst Car: Mazda7. Too much turbo-lag, did not handle well,
Most Dissapointing: Mazda RX8. On the course they had laid out you were stuck at around 4000 rpm in second gear, and the car just has absolutely nothing going for it in that range. It was also a pretty tight squeeze getting in and out, but felt pretty comfortable once inside.

So let me get this straight, it's a time trial but they tell you go slow. Okay...... lol!

Sucks about the 8, would've been nice to be able to wring some of those top end horsies out. I'm not too surprised about the 7, although I still feel it's one of the best looking cars on the road... in person anyways. My one complaint about the 5 is it's lines are a tad too straight, would've been nice for a few more curves here or there, but not a huge deal.

Was the event crowded?

Yeah, sorry, CX7. It was a dog no matter what they call it.

Yeas, there were lots of people. You were in line for about 20 minutes to get in each car except for the course where they wanted you to match a posted time. The idea there was just to drive the cars and get a feel for them, not zoomzoom.

Mazda is to be congratulated for their commitment to doing things like this. GO MAZDA!

On a side note, the place stunk of burn't clutch by the afternoon. (burnout)

Are there any listing of when these events are occuring? Sound like a blast.

You must have had a bum CX 7. I just bought one Saturday and I love it and feel it handles really well and the turbo lag is very minimal! All my males friends loved it and could not believe how fast it was. I had an RX 8 and I agree on your statement but get beyond 3000 RPM and she screams! I had the automatic.

Then again, check out how tight the track is... there's no room to really spool the turbo up. Hence the RX-8 problem. Perhaps I'm wrong, just a thought...

And there is NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER that whoever designed the track made it just twisty enough to keep the RX-8 from getting into the really fun part of the HP/Torque curve.

Yea, probably right......they should design different tracks for each to get the full effect, huh!

I disagree

Cmon guys - different tracks for each car!?! :bs:
If you drive RX8 and complain about second gear and 4000rpm - then it's purely your fault not shifting to first - beacuse the beast handles 9000 rpm- s easy!!! (ughdance)

No, one better track for all cars. What fun is staying below 25mph twisting back and forth. All that would be needed are one or two stretches to wring the cars out on, that's all.
