225/40x17 Hoosier A6 fits MSP!!!

Finally, a top rank autox competition tire that fits my MSP! This tire looks like it was made especially for the MSP in that there is very little room left around it in the front fender wells. I can barely get my finger between the sidewall and the front strut. It mostly misses the fender liners at full steering lock in both directions while sitting still in my garage. I haven't had a chance to run an event yet, so I don't know if there will be some rubbing under hard braking when the front springs compress. Looking down from the top, it looks like the tire will barely clear the fender lips when the springs compress under cornering or braking. Looks like there is plenty of room in the rears.

Call Mid Atlantic Motorsports at 574-243-5553 (Indiana) to order. List price is $219 each.

Now I just have to go out and use all that new tire traction! Watch for my results after the Packwood Pro Solo and National Tour events.

First pic is 225/40x17 Hoosier on left and 205/40x17 Toyo RA1 on right.
Second pic is Hoosier next to Goodyear 225/45x17 Eagle F1 GS-D3.
Third pic is left wheel at full right steering lock.

Nice...Don't know if my tires will be here by the Tour, sure would be nice for the MSPs to sweep D Stock and STX!

Morris, we'll have to get some pics of the cars together at Packwood since the scenery is so nice!

Are you going to the event this weekend to scrub them in? If so, I'll see you there.

Britt

I thought they would fit well since my 235/40/17 RA-1's fit and those are a little smaller all around.

What offset wheels are you using? +50?
Keep us updated on how tirewear is on the A6's.

A6

Nice tires!!!

I ran against a type R and BMW330ci using A6s last weekend at a CenDiv event and we got spanked by both. We were running some crappy Avons and some heavy wheels. We also had a bunch of other problems too but I'm listing those in my Detroit post.

I've heard from evryone that has the A6s that they are faster than any tire they have used.

I'm still contemplating wether I'm going to run STX or buy a set of A6s and run DS next year. This year I'm sticking with TDS because I'm so high in points already it would be stupid to throw it away.

Why does Tire Rack only sell the A6 in a 225/45/17? They don't list the 40 series tire at all.

Wheel offset is +50.

Yeah, Tire Rack still doesn't list the 225/40x17 size. That's why I directed you to call "Hoosier Tom". The guy had to straighten out his distributor to get them, but he got them to me!

Ran my first event on the Hoosier A6s at Packwood, which is where the National Tour and Pro Solo events will be run in two weeks. The A6s have no problems with rubbing anywhere: fender lip, wheel well liners, etc. They stick like glue but are absolutely silent under, at, or over the limit.

Incredible. I was doing 75 foot slaloms with my foot flat to the floor, then 65 foot slaloms the same. Terrific braking grip. Tight turns could bring on some scrub sideways, but only if you really flung the car into the corner. I'm a relatively conservative driver, preferring to creep up on the limits, so I'm sure I didn't come close to squeezing everything out of these tires that they had.

On the other hand, with so much grip and so little sound they really covered up my mistakes. I went from 59.5, to 58.8, to 58.0 in my official 3 runs. The next 3 were 58.1, 58.3, and 57.6 so obviously my driving was having a large effect on times. Cooling water was sprayed on all tires after each run, with the final run having two sprays to try to cool the tires some more. It was 102 degrees in the shade and I don't want to guess what the actual asphalt temp was. My poor MSP was suffering tremendous heat soak with no water left over for the intercooler, so I probably had a 125 hp car at the end.

I looked at the tires for wear and can't really tell after only 6 runs. They are definitely scrubbed in, but I don't have any good way to measure tread depth (there's only two grooves in the tire!).

A local driver in an SRT4 could only post 58.7s on Kumho 710s, but that could be his relative inexperience. He's been improving greatly, knocking a full second off his times in his last runs but just couldn't get the job done on Sunday. I'll let everyone know how the Pro Solo and Tour turn out. Here's hoping the courses favor the MSP!
