My Recent Troubles

About a week ago (34900 miles on the clock) I started noticing a very strong coolant smell. When I checked the level of the coolant bottle, I found it a little low but other wise OK. I saw nothing on the driveway and none of my hoses showed sings of leaking.

I was on this site a few days after this check and I came across several treads were people were talking about cracked radiators. So when I got home I checked under the car, the attached pic is what I found. Took it to the dealer and was told it was due to the SMIC. (screwy)

I decided to go with an upgraded radiator, but the only one out there for the MSP is the AWR comp. for $550. I was told that the mounts will have to be modded and that they had none in stock now I would have to wait till they were built. I ended up ordering a stock one from Ken at Protggarage.com under $200 shipped because the leak got worse. It should be here next week.

On Friday (3/3/06) I was on the way to work when I noticed the battery light was on. I check the voltage while the car was running and it read 12V at all RPM. (Dead Alternator). Limped to the Dealer, this they will cover but they did not have one in stock so it had to be ordered.

So, thats my story.

P.S. Can someone please make an all aluminium radiator that will fit without mods and cost between $200 and $400?

That sucks! I'll have to check my radiator, too, now... I'm paranoid.

^ Haha, werd.......my radiator fluid is always low. I may have to check that in the morning.

I was one of the individuals on another thread with a cracked radiator. After looking around a little, I noticed that my SMIC was putting pressure against a small plastic "nipple" on the top/driver side of the radiator, which I think ties into the core support. There is actually a cut out there for the SMIC, but it didn't fit right. So the day before I took it in to the stealership, I carefully made the cut out bigger with a dremel and a file. I figured I was screwed when I took it in, but suprisingly, they replaced it under warranty! (thumb)
-Check the driver side core support, looking from behind the radiator, just under the fan shroud. That's where mine was leaking...not alot, but enough to make the fins green and create the smell.
