Rust for the winter?

I have a 91 protege with peeling paint, I will be getting it repainted next summer.
Auto zone has touch up paint in a bottle like nail polish, I was thinking of using that for spots where there is small rust spots, I would hope to not have to repaint all the areas where there is no paint, since it will be repainted next summer. I just want to keep the salt from making the rust really bad

also, there is a bad rust spot under the passenger door, I have heard people reccommend rust-oleum for that, as a quick fix. My concern is that If i let it go this winter, then the rust + salt will eat all the way through the metal. How hard would it be to then repair, maybe even let it go and then get side skirts, or just put bondo over it? Or would I have to remove the rust-oleum, and do a whole bunch of other crap before getting it painted?

I want to make it look good, but I will need the car as a daily driver until summer, so that's the soonest time to paint. (also, the longer I save up, the better paint and equipment I can get) I just don't want to let these rust spots come back to **** me (or worse, my Protege)in the butt.

(big pic warning)

You could try to grind down the rust and see if there is any good metal left underneath all the rust. If there is that would be the easiest way. otherwise you would have to cut out the rust and weld in a new piece. Then you could sray rust-o-leum for temporary winter. DO NOT just put bondo over it. waste of money and it wont protect the rust at all. it absorbs moisture like a sponge and will crack and fall off very quickly.

Touch up is a good option to prevent rust in the "no paint" areas. Just make sure you sand the little rust off with a high grit sand paper. As for the peeling paint, as long as no metal it showing you should be fine for winter. just try to maybe keep it washed to keep all the salt off.

Rust oleum it is. If It costs more than sisdeskirts to repair, Ill Just get those.
Ive used the stuff before, works like magic (not on a car though)

Anybody used this stuff called rust doctor before? looks like good stuff. I have a friend painted the underside of his jeep with it, looks good after much off roading and 7 years
