Unichip Users: Where did you put the switches?

At present I have the three switches for the Unichip stuffed in the glove box. I am, however, contemplating installing the boost switch and map switch in the two blank plastic panels on the dash adjacent to the dimmer (I purchased a second blank to replace the coin holder). The ECU switch will be tucked up under the dash, seeing as it is not regularly used.

Has anybody installed the switches in these two blank plastic panels? How did you go about doing so?

Thanks.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. They pretty much get stuffed in the glove box.

How much did the extra blank panel cost? You could probably use a dremel to cut the hole and a zip tie to hold up the ECU reset switch.

The blank panel cost $10 (ouch)! That's a good idea to use a Dremel to cut the blank panal, as it should come out clean this way. I did, in fact, use a zip tie to hold the ECU reset switch out of the way under the dash.

Thanks.

Be careful who you let drive your car. You don't want a valet or carwash people to get in and start flipping switches. I try not to let anyone else behind the wheel, but mine stay hidden just in case.

This past weekend I installed the boost and map switches in the two blank panals. As suggested by WillisW555, I used a Sears rotary tool to carve out rectangular holes for the switches. The end product looks as if it was installed by the factory. Unfortunately, my digital camera is being fixed, so pictures will have to wait until its returned to me.

For a factory look I cut all the wires to the switches so I could pass the switches through the front of the blank panals. I then used some additional wire when needed, and butt connectors, to finish up the job. The ECU power switch is zip-tied up under the dash with all the wiring. I am pleased with the final result.

I will most definitely post pictures guys.

I just got the digital camera back from Kodak. I believe they fixed it for good this time. Anyway, I will try to post the promised pictures of my dash-mounted Unichip switches this weekend.

Waiting for those pics...

Okay, here are the promised photos of the installed Unichip switches (the first three photos), plus a shot of my Autometer Pro Comp electronic vac/boost gauge (the last photo). The second switch from the left with the green light on is the boost switch, and the second from the right (the light is off in one photo and the orange light is on in two photos) is the map switch. The light being on indicates the switch is on high boost or map B, respectively.

I noted what I did in earlier posts, so I will not comment further unless asked to do so. I am quite pleased with the final result.
