Gash in my bumper

So I was pulling out of a spot last week and there happened to be a misplaced parking slab with a piece of bent rebar sticking out of it...all right by my passenger side. End result: about $500 worth of damage. I can't justify spending $500 to fix it, since it doesn't really look that bad (the underside is what's mostly scraped). The ONLY thing you can see without being under the car is a 6" gouge on the passenger side of the bumper. I have touch up paint...I'm considering giving it a shot myself. Any suggestions?

Another underside shot...
Keep in mind that the only one visible without being under the car is the top most scratch...

I wouldnt use the touch up it might make it stand out more. If you clean it good and get that black scuff out, it will look much better. On my old car i had a simalr problem and i used rubbing compuond to get it out. i'd get a professional opinion b4 doing that though

That's not a black scuff...that's the plastic under the paint.

You are exactly correct. The bumper cover is made a black plastic, so rubbing, buffing, etc. will not fix it. I used touchup paint on a shopping cart scratch on my fron bumper and it worked fine. Clean the area very well before touching it up....use a tar and wax remover or some dishwashing soap to remove the wax in the area. Then, apply the touchup paint with a toothpick or a Q-tip. Do not use the brush built into the touch up paint can...it will not work very well. Also, if you are concerned about how nice it will look, test a small section and let it dry. If you take your time, i'm sure you will be much happier with the results than having to spend $500 bucks at a body shop. Good Luck.

i just got my bumper replaced- ****** it up in accident with guard rail. its not that expensive! :D the headlight COSTS MORE. i got oem for $175.

That may work, BUT look at the pic...it's a GASH...there is plastic missing...it needs to be filled to an extent.

Right, and then paint and labor=$500.

this is true, otherwise just get the wings west bumper,

otherwise,

can't that qualify for an insurance claim?
(provided you have full coverage)

check that out.

kooldino if you are interested in the auto exe lip email me promp32001@msn.com we are currently working on a mint blue/autoexe order and we could ad you to the list if you are seriously interested

pricing is $100.00-$1,000.00 (joke)

to me, visibility isnt the only thing important. i would have it replaced. you bumper has been forever tainted. there are rock flicks in my hood from careless non english speaking mexicans at work and im going to just replace it with carbon fiber one. but thats just the opinion of a neat freak.

it's only a matter of time before another nick or dent damage the bumper. It sucks I know, I got into a too steep driveway and scratch the lower bootom front of the bumper. :'(

What works good, is 4 products. First, a paint cleaner (bottle 1/3, meguiars). Then the polish (bottle 2/3). Once this is done, u will be left whit the area that has no paint anymore. Fill it in with your touch up. Let it dry for a couple of days. Once completely dry, re-clean and use an extra light coumpound (meguiars scratch X for instance) and buf the surrouding areas to try to remove as mush skin waviness between the toiuch up part and the original paint with a lint free cloth. Then wax the area that was fixed. It's probably the best do-it-yourself scratch repair u can do. At least, worked for me. The best tool is patience, dont rush it out, it's not an hour fix.(rockon)

Cool, thanks, I'll give that a shot. Do you recommend any sanding?
