Wheel/Tire combo: Kosei TS/Fuzion 225

I'm running 225/45/17 Fuzion tires on the stock wheels currently. They rubbed a little on the insides.... So, I added 5mm spacers and the rubbing was mostly eliminated. (you have to really push it now to get some rubbing)

I lost a wheel and tire recently by hitting a driveshaft on the highway. Now I'm thinking of just getting new wheels so I have the right offset for this size tire. I really like the tire size, it gives the right amount of cushion and still has excellent handling. I don't have to buy the Fuzion's again but in the 5,k I've put on them, I've had no issues and like them as much or more than the stockers.

I'd also want a lighter wheel. I did some searching and found the following:
Stock MSP has:
55mm offset
215/40/17 tire size
19lb. Racing Harts

The wheels I want are the Kosei TS in 48mm offset. My thinking is that this should be perfect since it would be like adding a 7mm spacer to the stock wheel. Is my reasoning flawed here?

The Fuzion/Kosei total price is around 1200. So, I don't want to plunk down that much cash without asking the experts here. I'd be interested if anyone has gone through this and had any suggestions.

Thanks!

Oh, BTW, I'll be selling spacers, lugs, and wheels (with 5,k used tires) if I do this to help cover some of the gap in price.

The TS's only come in +42mm and +50mm offsets in the 5x114.3 bolt pattern. If you get the +50's you can take off your spacers and run the 225's w/o rubbing.

I bought the 42mm offset just to be on the safe side.... With the 5mm spacers, there's a slight rub on the inside when cornering hard. I measured all the space and could likely go to 40mm without too much trouble...

I'm really looking forward to getting the new Kosei's. I decided to keep 2 of my tires and just remount them to the new wheels. I have a friend at work who wants to put the Racing Hart's on his Mazda6 sport. We think it'll work but aren't sure yet. I'll take photos.

good deal, you'll be fine with the +42mm and spacers. I've wanted a set of the TS's for well over a year now. pics are much appreciated :)

FedEx just dropped off the wheels... They look awesome... Also, I weighed the Racing Hart's with Fuzion tires at 43 lbs. and the Kosei's with the same tire.... drum roll please.........
37 lbs.! I just lost 24lbs of rotational mass!!!!! SUUUWEEET!

Now if only I could lose 24 lbs... :(

I have some photos... and will have more... Is there a place to post them here... like a gallery of some sort?

I've brought the same wheels too! I think the Kosei K1 TS has the unbeatable value in term of strenght and lightness.

really looking forward to get mine too!

my wheels are here!! what do you guys think? I love them so much! and they are so light as compare to the stockie.....

They look great. Post some pics when you get them on the car. These are the same Kosei wheels that weigh 14 lbs for the 17" right?

+42mm and spacers
That would equal 37mm offset, you will rub. Run the 42mm without the spacers you should be fine.

mine is 50 offset. so it shouldn't rub with stock tires right?

anyways, I love these wheels, and yes they are 14 lbs on 17", can't beat the value + strenght + look as compare to other wheels on the market in my opinion.

I can't post any pics until the summer coz' I won't have them suffer for the horrible canada winter.

for sure will get some pics at the summer time!!! (cool)

Nope, you'll be fine. Maybe I'll get mine on before you then :)

I have photos on my digital camera that I haven't been able to upload due to work and other responsibilities.
I got the 42mm Kosei's w/ 225/45/17 Fuzion's and they definitely rub in the back fender wells. I rolled them a little with various things in the garage just to get them to not rub over light undulations in the road. They still rub on bigger dips or when there's weight in the back. (Which doesn't make sense to me since I thought the top of the tire should go in a little as it compresses the springs....?)

I weighed the wheels and tires on a Snap-On weight scale and it matched the results of the bathroom scale fairly closely. I was surprised that the Kosei's were a little under 14 lbs. each... like 13 lb. and 9 oz. That's just nuts. One place they saved weight is on the rim lip itself. It's so thin my tire installer couldn't put a clamp-on weight on the inside rear... had to do stick-ons on the inside and (of course) outside.

I LOVE how they look and even more how they handle. Every aspect of the handling is improved.

The Fuzion tires are about as good as stock in my opinion. They get a 7 overall using the Tirerack scale. Definitely worth the price.

Do the rub in the front at full lock turn? Mine do (same size) but with the Racing Harts. I guess with +42 offset they should't...

The fronts do not rub at all, anywhere under any circumstances I've tried. I knew that the 50mm offset would still rub just a little on the inside at full lock turn so I tried the 42mm. I measured the rears but clearly I didn't do it right.... :(

Pictures can be found AT THIS LINK... I used large images so you can see detail.

Just a quick update... I had the rear fenders professionally rolled at a place called 'Phantasm Motorsports' in Raleigh, NC. They have a special tool to do it. The tech, 'Hong' did a great job and I have NO RUBBING now.. :) Cost $100 which I think is fair for the quality of work.... He even fixed the rough spots I created trying to roll with an ax, baseball bat, and other implements of destruction.
