I have a 2003 Protege 5 with Sport Shift (about 7000 miles on it). I had the same thing happen to me about a month ago. I was at a stop light in "Auto" mode, the light turned green, I took my foot off the brake, and the car died just as I stepped on the gas. I put the transmission in "Park"...
