I got it on...Was only able to bend one of the four sides of the lock ring...
Follow up weirdness....
Before new inner and outer tie rods...
Left side, I could shake the wheel side to side and top to bottom. I did not get any grinding sound when rotating the tire
Right side, I could only...
Inner tie rod has is a tabbed lock ring. The tabs are bent towards the outside of the car.
1) Is this lock ring really necessary?
2) For removal I banged the tabs out with a screwdriver. How to I install the new one, since I would be bending them towards me?
From pic that looks really light and small.
Before going full in on the polisher and stuff recommended by GFrosty, try some Nu Finish Scratch Doctor. I have used it on much worse looking scratches and they came out.
If it is deeper and the orbital doesn't work then maybe some Dr ColorChip repair.
ahhh... ok thanks.
It looked like it was coming out of the bolt just next to that plastic part. Didn't realize that plastic part connected a bunch of hoses.
Thanks
I can see the coolant bubble out of that circled bolt that is on the block.
Here is a blown out pic that shows the location better...
Anyone know what that bolt is and how to fix the leak?
2.3L is leaking coolant from the left side of the block...
Oil looks fine on the dipstick and I don't see any oil in the coolant expansion tank...So, is this the head gasket?
Wow... forgot to report back on this.
It was a disaster, I had trouble with the control arm which should have been easier. Just couldn't get everything lined up afterwards and while doing it I noticed some other issues...
grease oozing out of the CV Boot
one of the jack points completely...
I have an 07 Mazda 3. I just took a look and the base (part that connects to the car) is much larger on the 3. No idea if the bolts would line up.
I am sure you could make it fit if you really tried, but my guess is you will at least have to do some cutting/grinding of the base. I would bet...
I think what I am going to do is try and leave the knuckle on and use a wheel bearing press kit to get it off (Autozone has one that I can borrow at no cost).
If I can't get the bearing out then I'll see about taking the knuckle off and getting a new one.
I am busy this weekend so, may be a...
Shouldn't need to cut the shaft to get the knuckle off.
So... parts needed... If I don't want to press anything out
Wheel bearing (sealed)
Wheel Hub
Snap Ring
Knuckle
But... I have ABS on this car (yup a fancy model). Where is the ABS sensor? Is it inside the knuckle? If so... it may be...
Thanks for the video on the control arm. That's better than other ones I watched.
Here is a video on how to put a bearing in without a shop press...
Do you think that will work for Protege's ?
