Took the valve cover off, checked the shim gap with a feeler guage and stuff seems abit loose but it all seems fairly consistent. Is there an easy way to check for sure if its rod knock? I don't want to be replacing the engine or get a new car if I don't have to.

Pretty sure the fan isn't hitting anything defineatly sounds like its coming from under the valve cover. Anyone know a ballpark region of how much that will cost to fix, or am I better off getting a new car? Just really sucks because its still fairly low mileage at 122,000kms (75,000miles) :(.
