So I took my caliper to the local mechanic and he was able to screw the piston back down to nearly flush with the housing using an adjustable wrench. Not that it mattered, if it doesn't slide on the hinge the caliper is jacked. Give it a shot - it looked like a PITA.

I have a similar situation with a driver rear caliper seized. I removed the parking break clip, the screw plug and the lock bolt. I used a 4mm allen to try to decompress the piston, and while the gear moved (and stopped), when it came out, it was mangled. I have the caliper all the way off...
