All I can say is that when I push the button inward the cruise control light on the instrument panel lights up. When I try to set the speed and let go of the switch it immediately loses speed and tries to downshift. I am wondering if I should check out the vacuum hoses and change them out and...

I have a 2001 Protege. The cruise control does not hold the set speed at all. I turn on the cruise control and get up to the desired speed but the cruise control will not hold that speed at all and immediately decelerates when I let go of the set button. Any ideas what's wrong???
