You are correct... No band-aids like clamps, strap-ons or FMUs. Mustang guys never use those anymore and they change MAFs, injectors, size etc.. Internet myth. The Mazdas can and have been reflashed.

There is definitely room to optimize the stock tuning = there is power to be gained even on a stock car. To clarify... Once you have the performance files, you won't necessarily need to change the file just because you added a cat-back or CAI.

Not to oversimplify but.... The Mazda PCM is not any different than the other Ford's. If you can get a 700rwhp Cobra to idle perfectly, in closed loop, run perfect in heavy traffic etc, etc, etc... I have no doubt we can get a 200-300whp Mazda do the same thing.
